Added 2022-11-29 06:25:59 +0000 UTCthe Empire of Japan built the largest battleship the world had ever seen and then decided to use it in the dumbest way possible.

Are we sure the Yamato wasn’t somehow crewed by Russian POWs from the eminently glorious Second Pacific Squadron?

2022-12-05 21:02:07 +0000 UTCI was listening to this episode as I got in the shower this morning, and misheard you speaking of the future of the Navy being an argument between "paddle ship guys and aircraft carrier guys." I'm an idiot in the morning, so it took me about 30 seconds to realize that obviously you had said "battleship," but those 30 seconds were full of wondrous speculation about world war 2 naval warfare being conducted entirely with paddle steamers (possibly with swan pedal boats as auxiliary craft). (Incidentally, having learned something about the military's enthusiasm for deadend technologies by listening to this show, I decided to see if paddle steamers had ever been used in a military context- it turns out the UK used them as minesweepers in the world wars. Which...good for them I guess?)

2022-11-30 17:31:32 +0000 UTCWe talked about the San Shiki AA rounds (type 3 shell) and since it isn't confirmed that Yamato sank anything for sure, we say it didn't because well, it isn't confirmed.

2022-11-30 15:58:29 +0000 UTCLove you guys but this podcast is entirely factually inaccurate. The Yamato had anti aircraft beehive shells which it fired and isn’t mentioned. Also some attribute the loss of the escort carrier to Yamato. It did far more than you guys gave it credit for. And the tin can sailors weren’t fighting alone but were supporting by aircraft from the escort carriers dropping bombs and straffing the Japanese ships causing mass confusion as they were constantly changing course to evade aircraft and torpedos dropped by Taffy.

2022-11-30 15:54:47 +0000 UTCThere were two pieces of weaponry in Taffy 3 that were big enough to take on Yamato.... Commander Ernest E. Evans' left nut and Commander Ernest E. Evans' right nut.

2022-11-29 18:03:04 +0000 UTCOh yeah, Hotel Yamato and Musashi Ryokan! Building the world's largest battleship to one up the Anglo-Americans and tripping over their dicks doing fuck all only to run away from a destroyer task force is a truly fitting story to the IJN fuckery. P.S. hope Hirohito hanged at the end of the war with Tojo and others. It is such a shame, especially the current emperor (Naruhito) seems like a pretty chill guy for a royalty

2022-11-29 13:17:25 +0000 UTCYou would not believe how many japanese pieces of media either reference the Yamato's name for some godslaying Hyperdreadnought capital ship (whether seaborne or space), or invent a sexy anime girl who is supposed to be the direct representation of the Yamato.
