My family is from not too far from the Glorieta Pass battlefield. One of my ancestors fought the Confederates alongside Kit Carson

2024-02-15 00:28:38 +0000 UTCI know this is coming way late, and idk if you still read the comments this far back (the reorganization made me realize I missed this episode when it released), but the bit about time traveling to join Mexico in the Mexican American War reminded me that interesting aside to definitely mention when you get to the Mexican American War series is the St Patricks Battalion, which was a group of mostly Irish immigrants who had a moment of conscious and defected from the US Army to fight for Mexico. They are still commemorated in both Mexico and Ireland, and also the subject of a banger folk song by David Rovics lol.

2023-08-13 16:07:55 +0000 UTCI grew up in Arizona, and Liam is 100% right. Having lived through a Tucson summer without AC, Phoenix is just not livable without AC. Phoenix is I think the worst urban sprawl I've had to deal with.

2022-09-06 03:20:59 +0000 UTCGreat episode. Got me wondering, have you thought of doing an ep on the US Camel Corp? It’s in the same region and it’s one of those things that’s a dumb idea that actually worked and was only not implemented due to the civil war

2022-09-04 04:14:17 +0000 UTCI've seen a lot of Confederate flags in Springfield, Illinois, the city where Abraham Lincoln might as well be a deity.

2022-09-01 20:48:32 +0000 UTCAlways fun to hear you shit talk the Confederacy. Even growing up in damn Idaho, so far north we might as well be Canada and not even a state during the Civil War, I had a teacher shoving lost cause myths down our throats, and a couple different dudes rolling around town with Confederate flags on their trucks.

2022-09-01 15:07:21 +0000 UTCArizona Tea has lasted longer than Confederate Arizona. Which is to say $0.99 cans if tea is my culture. And Confederate sympathizers can suck it and die in a hole.

2022-09-01 13:24:33 +0000 UTCExamples of native tribes in the Southwest (besides the Apache) are the Navajo, the Pueblo peoples, Pima and Mojave.

2022-09-01 12:59:39 +0000 UTCThe great thing about nuance is that it only requires diverse viewpoints, not balanced ones. Every Confederate featured on this show is a slightly different flavour of idiotic shitbag loser, so it's very nuanced.
