Humaita is similar to Belgian forts but it really reminds me of Vicksburg in the civil war, a river fortress everyone assumed was impregnable. It took someone with military skill and imagination in Lima e Silva/Duke of Caxias to do what US Grant had done, run ships past, cross the river and march the army around it.
