The county I grew up in (Dorset) had a lot of US bases in the run-up to D-Day. My Dad told me that, at the time, there was bother between the white soldiers and the locals as the girls there would dance with the African-American soldiers but not with the white ones, as the former had much better manners.

Gabriel Laycock

I believe that was between Yank and Skip soldiers. Not between Yanks and Black soldiers. But a lot of Skippy bars and brothels did refuse to enforce US colour lines.

Jacob Vardy

Same happened to me. Hope they will come as guests on each other's show more often

I just wanted to mention that in addition to black leaders encouraging folks to setve to prove their worth, Jewish leaders did the same in Germany. They served with distinction and nevet won the respect of the country they fought and died for.

Noblesse Oblahaj

Where my grandparents met. Really hoping my grandfather wasn’t an MP. Although, he was probably still racist. I just hope he wasn’t “incite a race riot and hunt people down the street” racist.

There was a violent clash in NZ between American and New Zealand soldiers during WW2 too over race known as the Battle of Manners Street, its pretty well known over here (I recognise this episode is about a clash between American servicemen of different races in Britain, not involving the British, but still it reminded me of it)

Robert and joe together? Well my day just got a whole lot better.

Benjamin Kenney

Today’s Behind the Bastards was great.

Matt
