Questions from the Legion
Added 2021-05-22 23:27:41 +0000 UTCAs you probably hear at the end of most episodes we answer questions from our supporters. Normally these come from the discord, but we don't want to limit those to a discord only thing. So feel free to drop a comment below asking us questions.
But let's get out ahead of a lot of questions that we get "are you going to cover (enter historical event here) someday?" The answer to that is yeah, probably.

2021-07-01 17:51:44 +0000 UTCAll the Armenian name I've heard always ended in "ian". Is this a thing, a bit like Scottish names that often start with "Mc" or just a coincidence?

2021-05-28 20:10:26 +0000 UTCIsn't there a whole historical study of military intelligence?
Will Clark
2021-05-26 11:56:28 +0000 UTCWhy is military intelligence so unmentioned in military history? Acquiring maps or guides, knowing the size and location of enemy forces, location of water and fodder, loyalty of allies and subordinates, et cetera... How commanders find out this stuff (or don't) seams fairly important but it rarely gets mentioned. Is it just lack of sources or something more?

2021-05-23 12:21:02 +0000 UTCWW2 American General Mark Clark. Was he a) an enormous pompous glory struck dickhead? Or b) see previous answer. The fact he allowed the German forces in Italy to escape north and establish the Gothic Line so that he could instead liberate the open city of Rome on June 4th and get some headlines until.... 36 hours later when Allied forces landed at Normandy likely cost tens of thousands of soldiers lives and extended the Nazis fight in Italy until the end of the war.... and that was just an average day for this incredibly vain pinhead. He was actually investigated by Congress post war for his disastrous handling of a river crossing in Jan 1944, but that did not impede his career. A gold braided Donkey if there ever was one.

2021-05-23 09:46:23 +0000 UTCThe internment of Japanese nationals and Japanese-Americans in WW2 has many of the precursor elements of historic genocides (suspicion of foreign allegiance, racism, mass internment, outright violation of the law in order to carry out the detainment). Similarly the extended history of lynchings of Black people in the South has similar patterns to genocides (racism, outright murder without consequence, widespread occurrence). Do you have an opinion as to what stopped these from escalating to the scale of an actual genocide?
