An update on things

Hey all,

It's been a while since I've given an update and I want to give my apologies about that. Time has been flying pretty fast lately. And I know there are a lot of people who are keen to see / hear about progress and I wanted to wait until there was something worth announcing, but unfortunately that hasn't come, which has led to this.

So before I get to where things are and what's going on, as well as what I'm thinking about doing in terms of this project, I want to reiterate something I've already mentioned many times already. This is a โ€œfor fun projectโ€, that will only be worked on during my free time. This isn't like my other two projects which I do during work hours and take priority over pretty much everything else. Therefore how much work I do on the project is very much linked to: how much free time I have, how much free time I want to put into the project AND how much I am enjoying the project.

Which brings us to where we're at now. Several factors have sapped my free time lately (socialising, gym-going, picking up the guitar again and planning a large D&D campaign to name some.) But that in itself isn't necessarily the problem, the problem is I prefer doing these things (at the moment) over this โ€œfor fun projectโ€. I must admit early on, after this project came to the attention of many more people, the fun was sapped and the pressure began to build. It started feeling more like work and less like a fun, spare time / hobby project.

For those that don't know, I already had a time in my life where I was working a normal job and then working on projects that felt like work, which ultimately led to massive burn out and all projects ended up suffering as a result. I am not going to allow that to happen again. I will not risk burnout on the other projects just because people are really keen to see progress on this project. I have been very transparent since the beginning (and I always try to be) that this project will not have regular / timely updates like my others, yet people seem to keep missing that or purposefully ignoring that.

The project has ultimately stalled at the moment in terms of development, due to the reasons mentioned above. Artwork however has continued to be acquired still in part thanks to the supporters on this patreon.

So where do things go from here?

This project isn't dead, nor have I stopped caring about it. And it's something I've been thinking about quite often of the best way to approach this and I believe I have come to a decision that is (hopefully) the best route to take.

I will be only releasing 3 builds for the game from this point on.

The first build will be focused on getting the first level progression (the sex scenes) with the base characters that have already been presented, acting kind of like a demo. The second build will introduce a couple new characters (up to their sex scene progression) and finishing off the other base characters. The final build, which will be released likely only on steam / itch.io will be finishing off the game entirely (maybe another new character and also finishing off the characters introduced in the second build.)

Having this approach will make it feel less like I'm delivering a recurring build (like my other projects and how plenty of people do it) and instead focus on delivering a completed game at my own pace and timing (which is pretty much what I wanted in the first place). This will take the pressure off me some, and hopefully really show others that this is not functioning like a regular project that they are used to seeing grow on a monthly / bi-monthly basis.

I'm going to keep the patron up (for now at least) for those who want to continue to help with the acquisition of artwork and for a place for delivering news (like this). But I'll also set up an itch page for those who do not wish to follow a patreon page.

I'll say this again too, but if you have any expectations of receiving rewards or for quicker development times, please DO NOT provide any financial support. I don't want to receive any support from false pretences of how this project is going to go.

Any major changes or updates or any news I will of course drop here (and over on the itch when it is set up). For those who have remained patient and for those who have supported the project so far (in any capacity) I really appreciate it and cannot thank you enough. I really do hope to deliver you something that you will really enjoy in the future.

Comments

To help you with "keeping the fun in and the pressure out", I will cancel my support for the project, that should help you.

All good, the premise is so damn good that I'm prepared to wait a lifetime.

Smoolio
