goddess, this series just finds way to worm even deeper into my feels i swear. you really truly have a way with words i’ve never seen elsewhere. even if i may be the target demographic, that doesn’t demerit the spot dorely and now this series have in my heart and mind. absolutely floored with the ending, ugh i just want to save each and every person in this story because you make them feel like i’ve known them my whole life.

The kiss is inexcusable full stop, but I do think it was one of those “I’m too drunk to stop myself from doing something that I want to do when I’m sober but know I shouldn’t.” But the “I hope you don’t hate me for this” I’m pretty sure is “I hope you don’t hate me for waking you up when you’re almost definitely nursing a hangover, especially because I’m going to trauma dump on you.” At least, that’s my hope.

She's officially crossed the line between "I don't know I really like her and I want her to do well," to "Problematic fave, get better soon, you're a jerk," in this chapter. I don't expect her to cross fully over into "Wow, you're a monster :hearteyes:", but wow. I enjoy being invested enough in a character where I'm thinking all of (whatever nonsense I'm defending Kennedy with today) AND "Wow, Kennedy, you sure did parallel exactly the things that happened to Maxine in the process of one of the times she's been assaulted! While she was too drunk to respond! Good job, you are the worst!" and "Awww, but I really hope Kennedy gets better." Also, unrelated, I like this as kind of a darker reprise of Chapter 17 where Willa forces a kiss on Taylor.

2026-02-12 01:46:43 +0000 UTCWhat I’m hoping is that the kiss was a “I couldn’t help myself” moment (which does not make it okay, but is a better alternative than nearly anything else), and that the reason why she said “Please don’t hate me for this” because she knows Maxine has a very bad hangover and needs to sleep, but she’s also feeling incredibly bad after Taylor’s tongue lashing, and is drunk enough to unload her damage on Maxine; we never did get the whole story about Nick, after all, or why she kept saying “I didn’t leave her.”

Justin and Jim (Placebo “joke” aside (Maxine has forgiven you but I won’t!)) are both very good boys. I truly do not think that Justin has a malicious bone in his body, and is willing to throw down to protect people and is his fourteen year old sister’s hero (right next to Maxine). Dude is setting the standard for everyone else, you ask me.

I do not miss the days of trying to transition on the early 90s twice and failing. I get what Maxine is going through, eviscerally (from my gut/organs from eviscerate). Im still pulling for Maxine and Taylor through all of this. I do so want a happy ending, but Ill take what I get in the end. At least she got a better book to read from than that crap I had (That Janice Raymond piece of drivel and treacle).
