I have stopped trying to keep track of how many days and months are passing. Mostly due to an accident I had with my calendar and had to throw it off.
I didn’t accidentally make it into a target practice object, I promise…
But either way. The world is changing. Mutating, and shifting.
As the days keep passing by, alongside weeks, months, and years.
The biggest change being the mutants and RZ’s.
Note: RZ’s = Rad Zombies
The RZ titans, giant fused together flesh abominations walked cities. Or they did until recently. I wasn’t sure where they went, but in my last expedition, I hadn’t found a singular one of those giant mutants stomping around. The city was eerily quiet in that expedition. And I soon learned why it was so quiet.
I found about three city blocks frozen solid by something. I couldn’t tell by what, or if it was a freak weather change or one of the mutants awakening ice powers or such.
Or if my gut feeling was right, Ice Magic.
Magic was complicated stuff. I didn’t understand a lick of it, even as it changed me and the world around me. But I still knew that that level of magical power wasn’t something… Common. I couldn’t ascertain such a thing, but the area wasn’t… Affected by a controlled manner. And it had an origin point, a ‘’blast mark’’ so to speak. Frozen into the solid concrete of the streets.
They were footprints, or, well, not footprints but the shoes of someone. They had frozen solid before they were broken off. Weirdly enough I didn’t see any flesh or blood attached to the shoes, so someone didn’t lose their skin once they detached themselves from it. Didn’t make me feel any better about that fact, if anything it made me feel worse.
Whatever, or whoever caused this, was still walking the land of the living and was a powerful wizard. One that I would be at a disadvantage if he could freeze my water magic solid.
Still, it wasn’t all bad news in my expedition towards the city.
While I couldn’t control solid water, Ice itself, I could still lift it and throw it, uh… ‘’Telekinetically’’ with my magic. I felt a rejection, a bizarre feeling in of itself when I tried to control or freeze my own water to use as Ice but… I still felt it was possible. It just rejected my power, but it was only a matter of time.
Or so I hoped, even if I had to start over things by making ice cubes to be put onto my drinks.
But besides my discovery of potential Ice compatibility, I have also found some… Pink slime in the city. It originated from the biggest candy shop we had in the city. One that was also, unfortunately, quite close to the factory that made its candy. The Pink slime had invaded every nearby building, with the factory and candy shop being the most affected and ‘’coated’’ by the slime. I wasn’t sure what it was, slime didn’t describe it well either. It was like jelly but more solid as it wasn’t transparent. However, I did collect a sample to study it.
After I prodded it with a stick, a metal stick, and finally used a taser to see if the thing was alive or acidic in any way And wasn’t I lucky to discover that the mass of jelly was alive? It only twitched, but it was clearly alive in some way. I was a little bit wary of touching it now or trying to cut it while being so close to it. So I abused my magic.
Water Knife Vs. Pink Slime/Blob/Jelly!
Of course, it wasn’t a grand battle, my water knife cutting through it with a little bit of focus on my part. I just cut a chunk, about the size of my hand before I used my water to form some crude hands and dump it inside a jar I had. Don’t ask why I had a jar around, okay? Worms weren’t easy to find when it wasn’t raining, alright? Still, the Ice City Block, and the Slime City Blocks weren’t the only things I found.
I found many things, actually.
First, I decided to raid the hospital. Something I should’ve done sooner but… It seemed to be a fairly dangerous place due to the potential of it being filled with RZs. Like in that show… About zombies and Grime? I really don’t remember it. But I gathered every drop of courage I had, before I stalked through and towards the Hospital.
Now, I’ll not bore you, that is myself with the details. Gods knew I wouldn’t forget them.
Bloody mess was the best description of the hospital, and I also saw something I don’t really wish to ever see again. Half-eaten children's corpses. Gods of High and Below, I wish all of these zombies a most painful death. But besides some extra trauma to carry back home, I also found some still useful meds and equipment for me to carry home.
Which included a stethoscope, a microscope, a bunch of syringes, needles, a lot of glass objects. About two bags- Yes, I filled two bags with how much I was carrying. About two bags filled with chemistry and medical equipment. Mostly the intact glass pieces, and flasks, as much of the actual chemicals had already perished. Didn’t stop me from stealing the Periodic Table they had though, and also the few books I found inside the Hospital.
I came back tomorrow to the hospital to finish looting it, and this time I stripped it clean out of electronic parts. Every vending machine was scrapped for me to use, and whatever snacks and drinks that hadn’t perished were drunk and eaten as a little party to commemorate my finds. I really missed Coca-Cola, you never know you’re an addict until you went months without drinking it. We only had Super Porp, which was terrible in of itself, it only had one flavor and I really had no idea how the damned Company that made it survived and thrived for so long.
Still, I was getting off topic. Hospital loot, aplenty.
Side note: Loot one of the public libraries for books.
Gotta preserve humanity in someway, if only for archival and selfish purposes. And those libraries ought to have more paper and books for me to use. Either as firewood, or as another journal to write things in. Gods knew I needed more books to forget about!
…
‘’Really hope I can find a library to loot.’’ I murmured as I stretched my back, a groan escaping my mouth before I closed and pocketed my journal into my belt. Getting up, I cleaned the table a little, mostly removing any accumulated dust before I moved to one of the boarded up windows.
Looking through the boards, I hummed in though as I observed the untriggered beartraps and wire fences I had set up. I hadn’t had any accidents like the Hug-Wolf again. But it also worried me that nothing has triggered or cut itself into one of my wire fences. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want them to be triggered or for me to find evidence of something having been near my home.
But ever since that Hug-Wolf got caught in one of my beartraps, I had expected… Things to happen. More mutants and abominations to pop up and try to kill me. Hell, I half expected to look out the window one day and see a fucking Deathclaw of all things. Blinking my eyes, I frowned at the… Hallucinations that plagued me before they disappeared. Sighing, I pulled my journal out of my belt before I started writing in it.

Log 05-2
I have started to hallucinate ever since my last visit to the city. Seeing through a plane of existence impossible to be viewed by mortal and sane eyes. I’m afraid that I am either slowly becoming insane, or I am suffering from the radiation.
Note: Find a Geiger counter, and point at self.
…
Closing the book, I looked through the window one last time. A multitude of forms and shapes that I couldn’t understand briefly flashed through my eyes as I blinked them before they vanished.
‘’Ha… I know that things are changing, but I fear that my mind might become twisted with these visions.’’ I sighed and murmured before I walked towards my kitchen. I was craving something sweet, and as I opened my fridge I frowned at the Super Porp can taunting me.
Grabbing it and cracking it open, I took a sip before I stared into nothing.
‘’Huh… This still tastes like shit.’’ I said before I threw it into the trash can and fiddled around my fridge to get a water bottle.
