Not All Nymps Are Female

C3: Log 03

It has been a week or two since my last log. Uh, sorry about that. I was kind of busy surviving before I remembered I had even found and started using this journal. I’ll try to keep this on my person at all times from now on…

I’ll probably forget about this Journal a lot of times, but it is the thought that counts, no?

But two-ish weeks have passed. And in that time, I made… slight progress! I could now, on command, conjure water droplets at will! Granted, it wasn’t the most useful or biggest breakthrough I had, but it was something! It was proof that that water dart I conjured was real and possible to repeat again!

It took me roughly five whole days of non-stop training for me to even manage to conjure the shape of a dart before it just dropped into the ground as a puddle I now had to clean. But still! Progress! And lots of it! So much in fact, that I moved onto smaller things in hopes of having instant results. And they were… mixed.

I could make water needles. I could use them as actual needles, but I couldn’t exactly give them enough… Kick? Propulsion? I wasn’t sure of what the term would be. But I couldn’t ‘’throw’’ them very far away to cause any real damage. Don’t get me wrong, they were still needles even after throwing them and hitting the ground, but I couldn’t exactly launch them like bullets. I could make a veritable wall of needles though! Knitting has been quite fun when you can just shape the needle to whatever you want it to be.

Still, I didn’t make any true progress until recently. I managed to conjure and keep a water knife for a whole hour before it dropped into another puddle of water onto the floor! But it was progress! And deadly progress!

It wasn’t that sharp, but the knife did cut anything I tried it on. Which, once again, was huge!

I wonder if I could make a water ink pen? And isn’t that an idea to make some money? If only the world hadn’t ended, and alongside it crashed the economy. But bah, it would’ve crashed again like the great depression anyway. I was sure of it! Besides it didn’t affect the trout population even when it did. And no, that wasn’t a terrible joke on my part, or well, it was partially, but there was a river close by, and if anything the fish in that river had multiplied immensely.

Just in case I set up a few bear traps near the river banks. I’ll check on them every few days to see if any Fishmen tried to walk on shore, or if they caught anything. But until then, I would mostly stay in my cabin, training in using my water magic and maintaining my equipment. Maybe once a week I’ll venture into the city, and scavenge for anything of interest like books and electronics. If I could get my hand on a radio, I might be able to listen to some music. And if not, a record player would be a divine thing to find. I missed songs and music so damned much.

Putting my pen down, I leaned back as I stretched my body before I got up and moved towards the kitchen. A freshly caught trout lay dead on the counter, and with a little bit of will made manifest, a water knife slowly formed before I grabbed it and started using it to skin the fish and remove its bones. Differently from my parents, both sets of them, I did actually remove all the fish bones before I dumped it into the cooking pot. I wasn’t going to be making it into soup, I was simply purifying it, or at least trying to avoid anything harmful in it. I don’t think it helped much, but the thought counted, right?

Cooking up a meal was something I didn’t do much. I wasn’t exactly a cooker, and the only recipe I could follow was how to make carrot cake which I had memorized down to the last smudge on the page that the recipe came from. Still, fish wasn’t exactly something I liked eating. Much more of a chicken and beef kind of guy, as I didn’t like the smell of seafood.

After finishing eating, I cleaned up the table before leaving the dishes inside the dishwater and walking towards my bathroom. I shaved the growing stub of a beard I had before I looked at myself. Touching my face, I frowned at how pale and blueish I was getting. My hair was also getting… bluer.

I couldn’t tell if it was radiation poisoning, a disease, or simply a lack of solar light. But I was changing, and I didn’t know if that was for the best, or for the worst. Calling onto the water molecules in the air, a clean transparent mirror formed, made entirely out of water as I looked at my own reflection. Whatever was causing this change to my body… It certainly had to do with magic.

I could feel it. The bluer I got, the easier I felt being able to call my magic. And that… scared me in some form, yet excited me in many other forms. I was slowly changing, turning into something not human, which was a blessing, but I feared I would lose myself. I would lose my mind, my body would be turned into an abomination, and I would degrade into a mindless beast…

Taking one of the Anti-rad tablets, I swallowed it dry before I made my way to my bedroom. Getting under the covers, I clutched Bessie tightly onto my chest as I slowly drifted off into a dreamless sleep. The sound of acid rain was a terrible comforting noise as darkness took me.

Log 04

I have, once again forgotten to document my progress and findings in this changed world. It has been three months since I have annotated anything onto this journal. And I shall update it now.

First things first. My magic has steadily evolved and developed. But along with it, I came to realize that I suffered changes, changes that seemed to be tied to either my magic or the radiation plaguing the entire world. I couldn’t be sure I was even affected by it. But I started to take Anti-rad tablets every week just to be safe.

I don’t think they did anything. To delay or speed up this… transformation I was suffering from.

My skin got paler seemingly every day. It was now a pale greenish-blue tone. It reminded me of Foam for some reason. But my cadaver appearance was nothing compared to the changes to my hair. I didn’t feel my hair anymore. I didn’t have hair anymore. Instead, in it’s place, watery tendrils took their place, and these I felt just like my hair. But they weren’t organic. They were made of water. Water!

My recent changes have also brought a few problems. Every time I come in contact with water, I seem to be able to control it and influence it, yet at the same time it compels me to stay with it. To stay in one place for eternity! It didn’t whisper, it didn’t. But if it did, it would be the whispers of Nymphs. That I am sure of.

Not much has changed. The world was still ending, and shifting. I still lived in my little cabin all alone, with only the skeleton of the Hug-Wolf keeping me company. I didn’t start talking to it, or treating it as a person. Yet. But I knew I needed some form of companionship, or I would be going insane from the isolation.

I clearly wasn’t human anymore. But I still had vestiges and remainings of humanity within me. In those vestiges, they craved companionship, to continue their existence, and to start a legacy. I, of course, refused these instincts and cravings. I did not want any children, and I especially didn’t want any children to grow up in this… Terrible world. No, I would have children when I wanted, and when the world wasn’t a death trap filled with magical creatures and Rad-Zombies.

Oh, I must note this down.

Avoid Cities At All Costs! The Rad-Zombies have mutated into titanic globs of fused flesh, in search of flesh and uninfected people to consume.

Avoid Cities At All Costs! Big Fuck-Off Rad-Zombies!

End of Log.

My wrists hurted from writing so much, but I could finally close the journal before I slipped it into it’s holster. Yes, I had made a holster for my journal to stay in. Massaging my eyes, I rose from the chair I was sitting on as I made my way towards my bathroom. I looked at myself in the mirror, my eyes were a sapphire blue. A contrast to their original green color, but the thing that took most of my attention, and was an annoyance due to it’s wetness, was my own hair.

‘’Would it be too much to ask for some waterproof sheets?’’ I murmured before I threw some water in my face, the coldness of the water being a welcomed feeling before I dried my face with a towel, and walked towards my bedroom. Bessie was waiting for me, with a cyan bowtie tied to her barrel, as I grabbed her tightly before falling asleep under the covers.
