A note about the future
Added 2024-12-09 19:08:08 +0000 UTCHey all! As you've seen, I released a couple chapters off schedule. So what's going on?
The truth is over the last few months, since I started releasing TH, I've been doing an experiment. I set myself a modest goal, and if I met it, I'd try and give writing full time writing a try.
Was my goal to support myself with monthly donations? No, not even close. It was actually to pay for one of my medications. My most expensive, and as far as writing is concerned, my important medication.
I literally cannot sit down long enough to write without my ADHD meds.
Did I meet that goal? Well, not quite yet, but it looks like I may meet that goal by the end of December. So I'm moving to stage two.
Starting this week I'm going to take writing seriously. Monday through Friday I'm going to sit down and treat writing like a full time job. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday will be writing days, aiming for three chapters a day. Wednesday will be edit day, where I work on the TBoB major edits.
I do not know exactly what I'll be releasing daily yet... I'm considering alternating TBoB and TH, but I want to see what everyone thinks first.
Those of you that are paying attention should be asking, isn't that more than seven chapters a week? Like, significantly more? Well, yes. I'm planning on doing eight chapters of the primary stories a week (which would mean 4 TBoB, and 4TH, slowly building a backlog) which leaves four more slots. My first priority will be to complete DD. Two chapters a week. It's a story I immensely enjoyed writing, but couldn't bring my self to write regularly without my meds. It is extremely close to the end of book one, and I'm unsure if I'll continue it into book two or not.
As for the other two chapters... I'm undecided. I've posted the first half dozen chapters of a number of stories both here, and on my discord, in the last few months. I could pick any of them up. I think the one that has the most potential is 'The Wicked Witch of the Wild West' A straight up western, in a world where magic exists, but isn't common.
Again, if there were any stories that you were especially excited by, let me know.
Now, the important question. Do I honestly think I can make a living as an author? Honestly? Probably not. I have a core group of dedicated fans, but my fan base is tiny compared to a lot of authors on RR and SH. That being said, I am cautiously optimistic.
For me, and my rampant anxiety, that's saying something.
It took well over six months for TBoB to get a thousand followers, and TH looks like it's going to hit that by the end of book one. That's only two months. Yes there's a huge amount of overlap in the readers, but that's still significant growth.
Maybe, just maybe, with regular releases and actually getting my stuff into shape for a Kindle release I can make it work.
Those on my patreon will see an immediate change, and increased number of releases. TBoB will still only get two releases a week, so I can keep up with the release of TH until the end of book one. After that, I'll probably be balanced to two and two.
Live chapters probably won't see a change until after the holidays. I'll take a short break after TH finishes, in order to build up the backlog, and change schedule at the start of January.
That's about it for now. If you have any questions, or requests, please let me know! It'll take me a while to adjust, but hopefully I'll have everything running smooth soon.
Thanks!
