Questions about the direction for TBoB

Howdy all!

So since there are a couple chapters of TBoB Book 3 out, I wanted to get peopes feedback on it so far.

As you may have guessed it's not planned to be an antithesis arc, but despite Helen being involved and someone being dead, it's not supposed to be a vigilante arc either. If anything it's meant to be an investigation arc, similar to the sewer dragons from SCS, with a longer term story/payoff.

Now, there have been some concerns, which are fair... TBoB, and SCS in general, is mainly meant to be about fighting the antithesis but I made the conscious decision to put TBoB almost a year before the global, which means there won't always be a serious antithesis threat to fight.

Now, would people just prefer more antithesis hunting, and having me gloss over pretty much all other non-cozy storylines? Or do you want to see the occasional non-antithesis storyline?

Im aware that not everyone loved my previous Helen storyline, so it's understandable if you don't want anything non-antithesis again.

It's early enough in the story line that I can pivot if I need/want to, butll probably take me time to come up with an antithesis situation that would press Teddy prior to the global.

I'd prefer if everyone was honest, so let me know what you think.

P.S. if you're undecided, and REALLY want to know the long term plan, please let me know. I can share it, it just might affect the payoff for you.

I mean any long term story needs non-combat arcs, Look at He who fights with monsters. Most of the book is socio-political and low-grade intrigue now it's still one of the best stories out there. You keep doing do you little square shitting bookmuncher.

And if you’re continuously loosing characters, then they stop mattering. You might as well call them target practice dummies.

The only way continuous combat is meaningful is if you keep losing characters. Where do all these characters come from without some downtime? I'm happy with non-fighting, we can see the undercity and the family growing.

Without the non antithesis story lines how does a character grow, how do you show how Samurai effect the world around them.

I don’t know where anyone got the idea that SCS is just about Antithesis fights either. Cat never sits still. Here are her side arch’s that I can remember off the top of my head. I’ll honestly most likely miss a few. Any excuse to spend time with Lucy. Integrate Raccoon into the family. Learn how to be a mechanic in a very roundabout way. Sort out the under-city problem before everyone drowns in sewage. She more often than not has at least one or two newbie samurais following her around, learning the ropes. The political situation in her city is up in flames right now, not least, because she shot the mayor. The prosthetics project. Figure out what to do with the rest of the space in the building that she now owns. Etc…. SCS is a very vibrant story, in which Antithesis serve as a backdrop to the chaos that is Cats life. It’s not about the Antithesis and it never was.

Saaski

I like the idea. Especially if you can ramp up the cyberpunky aesthetic and keep the protector advanced tech relevent etc(not specifically weapons). You know the cyberpunk genre motto; High tech, Low life.

I honestly don’t know why so many people have such a problem with non-combat story arch’s. When you’re just constantly going from fight to fight, then the fights become meaningless. Teddy is amazing, and I route for her because; she fights for her family, she sets up schools, she stands up for what’s right, and she tries to make the world a better place. If this became a story, just about her going from Antithesis fight to Antithesis fight, then I would rapidly lose interest.
