💡Brainstorm for Patreon Exclusive [February 2025]

February’s topic is: “Romantic Connections.”

Choose one of the following short paragraphs to act as inspiration for your story. Speaker and listener type/race is up to you.

The contents of the paragraph do not need to appear in your outline (i.e., they can act as a prelude to your actual story), but they can be in the audio if you wish.

Find possible clues for context and setting from the paragraph you have chosen for your story, to help you develop the plot.

Additional instructions for sound effects may be added.

OPTION 1

The artificial gravity flickers, then stabilises, as you enter the control centre of the abandoned spacecraft. You barely have time to react before you walk into someone, their hand catching your arm to steady you. When you look up, you see shimmering eyes staring back at you, but her face is hidden beneath the rest of the helmet. “You should not be in here,” she whispers, and her grip lingers just a bit too long. Something about her feels impossibly familiar…

OPTION 2

The runes on the stone altar flare to life, the air crackling with energy. Then, it – she – emerges from the light, the surrounding fog rolling off her shoulders like a silken cloak. “At laaaassst,” she says, a mixture of relief and sorrow in her voice. “I have been summoned.” Then, a pause, as she squints at you and blurts out, “What – how? I thought you were dead!”

OPTION 3

The summer festival is in full swing. Colourful lanterns glow cheerfully against the evening sky. Amid the crowd, you spot a figure wearing an animal(any kind) mask, standing perfectly still, as if waiting for someone. Your eyes meet, and you feel a strange pull, as though you had met before in another life. The masked woman turns and begins to walk away, and without thinking, you push through the crowd, rushing to follow.

OPTION 4

The small café on the street corner is never busy at dawn, which is exactly the way you like it. But this morning, someone is sitting in your seat, at your favourite table, head bent over a notebook, furiously writing. You can’t see her clearly, as her hair is draped over her face. Being a creature of habit, you choose the table next to her, as it provides the same view over the awakening city. You order your usual drink and breakfast, and feel eyes peering at you curiously.

You can submit up to two sets of ideas. If you do, please label them IDEA 1 and IDEA 2. Submissions can be as brief or as detailed as you like.

I will choose some ideas for the poll. For the sake of fairness, all submissions are anonymous.
