Development wise I've come to the unfortunate conclusion that my issue will never be fixed, but I've also got better at working round it. So the struggle goes on...

It makes for good drama. But if we're looking at character reasons, you could argue her being mean is just cause subconciously she also wants to be fat (or at the very least yearns to not be restrained.)
