Arcane 1x05 Full Length Reaction

Comments

Hi again, I finally caught up with your reactions. Just like with "Shrinking", I really like them. 🙂 For me it is the exact opposite to you between "TLOU" and "Arcane". I like "TLOU" very much, but I really actually love "Arcane". For me as an avid fan of well told stories, this is the best I've ever seen, no matter if it's animated or live-action, if it's TV-Show or Movie. Simply the best. 😍 Here are some thoughts, that came to my mind when I first watched this episode (spoiler-free): - At this time, Caitlyn is easily my favorite character: I really liked her from the beginning, even in those short glimpses at her in the first act. She has a kind heart, is determined, has a sharp mind and a straight moral compass. She also has that naivete and hunger for seeing the world of someone who grew up sheltered and has never seen anything really bad. (As Milo said: "Just get born lucky.") She even said so herself: "She [her mother] would do anything, to keep me from seeing the real world." Though imo this naivete isn't necissarily a bad thing, I hope she can keep a little bit of that. The way this show is going, I doubt it though, I guess she'll learn a few bitter lessons. She already had the first reality check by seeing her fellow enforcers die in front of her. I don't know if she's a champion, as I've never played lol, i just hope she survives and doesn't get as traumatized as our beloved sisters. - The Flashback to teenage Caitlyn confirmes her sheltered and posh upbringing. She is so eager to win the trophy, because her parents denied her every opportunity to reach whatever goals she has on her own. For her it is totally believable that they paid the Sheriff of Piltover to Iet her daughter win in a shooting contest. Her parents want to give her the best life possible (as every loving parent) and don't see how they're putting her in a golden cage. I love the fact that she chose Grayson for her role model and I love the lesson, Grayson (imo) taught her: There are far more important things to aim for than some trophy. Your self-worth doesn't come from the number of trophys you won, but how you use the talents that you're given and so it doesn't matter if she let her win or not, she is an excellent shot. Now it is on her to decide, what she wants to so with this talent. - I love how Caitlyn crosses lines all the time: Figuratively when she talks to Jayce even though her parents forbade her to do so, when she investigates the attack at the hexgate even though she was on duty to guard her mothers tent at the fair and when she goes to Stillwater Hold to investigate furhter even though she is not an enforcer anymore. Oh and when she forges Jayce signature and uses his position to get Vi out of prison. Literally she crosses a line when she crosses the red line to get closer to Vi's cell. - Vi got beaten up on a regular basis for all these years (I would guess the time jump was 7 to 10 years?) When her cell door opens and she hears the *tock* *tock* *tock* of the guards bat or pole or whatever it is, she fully expects to get beaten up, you see her rolling her (injured) right shoulder preparing for what she expects to happen. You can see her surprise (at least I see it this way) when the noises of the guard disappear and just the young enforcer remains to take her with her. You can hear the music change in this moment from dark foreboding to a lighter, more positive mood, when she sees Caitlyn for the first time without any bars between them. - Marcus is trapped in a relationship he can't get out of, unless he is willing to put his daughter's or his own life in danger. This is of his own making, so I don't feel much pity for him, but I feel really sorry for his little daughter, who is completely innocent, but will suffer the most when her fathers decisions come crushing back on him (I'm pretty shure they will.) Fathers (fatherfigures) and their daughters is an ongoing theme in this show and it has no happy end for anyone envolved, as far as I can see. Did you see the picture on Marcus' desk that his daughter painted? It showed her and her dad on a meadow full of flowers and mom up in heaven... 😭 - For me, it is perfectly believable that Jinx figured Hextech out this fast. She is a genius with probably a very high IQ and she didn't have to start from scratch like Viktor and Jayce, because she stole the book and the plans with their theoretical ground work. She "just" had to continue from there and Silco would give (or get) her everything she needs to do so. - I love love love the instant attraction between Vi an Caitlyn and I so root for them to actually come together one day. Despite the differences in their upbringings, they're very similar at heart and complete each other. 💖 - Caitlyns awkward Mathilda-monologue was the most adorable and funny moment in the show so far. 😂 - Caitlyn deliberately only shoots at Sevikas shimmer arm to destroy it and so to keep her from killing Vi, she doesn't kill if it's not necessary. You can see all three holes in the shoulder joint. - The new "Last Drop" has Silcos symbol, an eye, over the entrance. - The fight between Sevika and Vi is easlily one of the best fight scenes i ever saw in movies or tv shows, animated or live action. The animators must have studied lots of boxing and mma fights, because every little detail is so believable and real. Both of them fight according to their characters: Vi angry and impatient, Sevika more controlled and aware of her defense. In the end, Vi looses because Sevika discovered and used her weak point, Powder. - When Vi starts her parcours down to the undercity, after running down the sloped pipe, you can see her look back up to Caitlyn and smile for a brief moment, as if to see if she follows her. - The shot of Vi jumping in front of the beautiful wall painting of a woman is the most beautiful shot of this show so far - in a show that is filled with beautiful shots 😍 - When the guy with the red jacket starts to mess with Vi I literally thought: "Dude, look at her muscles and her confidence, don't mess with this girl!" 😂

I had no idea! 😱 This really is one of my first forays into the gaming world, so there's a whole lot to catch up on. Thank you so much for sharing! I listen to Warriors at the gym a lot, and in context, it definitely makes sense as a "pump up" song! Thank you so much for sharing!

My first eps to comment on, sorry I'm so late to the game! A sidebar for Imagine Dragons: The band has a long standing history with League! As players themselves, they first worked with Riot Games' League of Legends with their 2014 single, "Warriors", to promote that year's LoL esports championship tournament. It was featured in an opening cinematic - a cover was re-released as another cinematic in 2020 to promote a new season in the game. I think having ID animated in this Arcane episode and featuring their song, "Enemy", is a great milestone to mark ID's continued partnership with Riot. I think their cameo in the middle of this episode is a little much, but it is cool to think about. Riot Games has had many other notable musical artists contribute to League from even before ID and fans always look forward to see who they collaborate with next. One of the first things you'll hear about Riot Games is how they're jokingly considered a music production company first before a game developer. The choice of music in this series is a great reflection of the company's dedication to its overall music production. It's definitely worthwhile to skim through Riot Game's music library, imo.
