My "Believe" Challenge!
Added 2023-03-25 15:31:27 +0000 UTCHey guys! I've been thinking lately, and in the spirit of Ted Lasso, his symbolic gestures, and determination to believe in achieving the impossible, I'm setting a challenge for myself, and my channel.
I absolutely love doing this--reacting, making videos, and getting to share them with such an incredible community, and I really want to be able to do this full time. The last few months have proven, between your feedback, and the growth in subscribership, that I have something special here, and hitting full time status is not only possible, but not too far away. So, I want to see how quickly I can get there, not only for myself--because I want to be able to dedicate my full time efforts to this, but also for you, so that I can focus more on the content you guys want to see...continuing James Bond, Oscar films, and other movies/shows that I know we'll all enjoy, but may not be the best for growth. (For example, Casino Royale has almost 50k views, and got me over 1k subscribers, but Quantum of Solace has less than 6k views, and got me about 20 subscribers.)
So, in the spirit of "believe," I want to take energy from Ted Lasso, and see how much I can grow on YouTube the next few months, by hitting every mainstream film I possibly can. That being said, I value your input, and particularly here on Patreon, I want to make sure you guys are getting the content that you want, so I will absolutely still be doing polls and requested content here (RRR, Scorcese, James Bond, shows like Arcane, and Severance that have been requested many, many times) posting the full length versions, and saving them to edit for YouTube. I'll still be posting YouTube polls, it'll more just be for the order things get filmed, since my slate of "mainstream" films is pretty standard--Indiana Jones, Alien, Terminator, The Mummy, Mission Impossible, Fight Club, etc.
The finale of Ted Lasso is May 31st, and that's my finish line--I'm hoping we get to celebrate wins for both AFC Richmond, and Movie Night at Jacqui's. I'm pushing so that by then, I'll be in a strong enough position that I can safely do whatever we all want to see, when we want to see it, and not have to worry about balancing this with the job that pays my bills.
I appreciate your guys support so much, and I can't do this without out you, so let's get out there, and kick West Ham's ass! BELIEVE!

That's so sweet, thank you! And I didn't know you were a writer! I'd love to check out your work (when I can find a spare moment π ). And yes! I absolutely loved Chernobyl. As heartbreaking as it was, it was such a spectacular, unbelievable series, and I could see Craig Mazin all over The Last of Us. It made watching that even better. Thank you so much for the well wishes, and I'll pass the good juju onto my mom. She loves hearing about all of you! π

I suppose you could call me an "independent content creator" as well, since I'm a writer and I've self-published my books. Did you watch the HBO Max series Chernobyl, by any chance? It certainly wouldn't be right for Movie Night - this is just personal, since I think you're a film student and Chernobyl is one of the best things I've EVER seen (and I'm probably more than double your age, so I've seen a lot of things!) Glad your mom is better - keep on trucking, and keep believing! We all believe in you! <3

Movie Night

What may attract more viewers is a unique take on film & TV, there are a lot of movie reaction channels out there, but few people actually know what they are talking about, so offering your film school expertise will certainly be helpful. Your channel got recommended to me with your take on Pulp Fiction, and I enjoyed your insight on how post-modernist cinema and script writing work, so I believe more of that will help you achieve your goal. If you haven't seen the early work of Guy Richie, you may have a go at Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and/or Snatch, these both have a lot of cheeky humour and very capable camera work. As far as Bond films are concerned, I generally find their scripts a little insulting viewers' intelligence. Casino Royale is a rare exception, but as a whole, I have always found Bond stories too absurd for my liking. In some way, the Austin Powers parodies work better for me, as they embrace the absurd and awkward, while Bond films tend to take themselves too seriously for what they are. There is amazing stunt work in Bond films, though, I give them that. Regarding things to watch that may draw viewership - Arcane is certainly a good pick, it is one of the best modern animation series made, and I hear it is already being studied in animation schools for its amazing technique. Firefly is an oldie but goldie, I enjoy it a lot, and it is some of Joss Whedon's best work - such a pity it was cancelled prematurely. Speaking of Ted Lasso, if you want to have a peek how things are actually done in English football, you may consider taking a look at the Welcome to Wrexham documentary series. In a nutshell, actors Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds bought a Welsh football club, Wrexham AFC, which is currently at the fifth level of English football. For refence, the Premier League is level 1, and professional clubs go only to level 4. It is a fascinating tale of how much the game means to local people, and how a football club could be the beating heart of a town. There are actually a lot of similarities to Ted Lasso, especially the ability of McElhenney and Reynolds to make fun of themselves but be very serious about their project and about helping the local community. Of course, it will probably not be very popular on your channel, as it is a documentary series about a non-professional Welsh club (though they may be promoted to level 4 this season), but it is worth a try, in my opinion.
