Quick Question About Drive

Does anyone here that does not have GMAIL know if you can a restricted drive folder even without having a Google account?

For example: if I have a hotmail account or a naver account, and I get invited to a folder on Drive, can I actually access it without creating a gmail account?

It's a genuine question because someone said it was possible but... whenever I try it, it asks me to create a Google account first.

I thought you could only access Drive restricted files using a GMAIL account.

Does anyone know anything about it? :')

I can only open the file if I'm using my Gmail email

We used Google Drive at work a couple of years ago for some important documents. Even though the other person used a Gmail account, he wasn’t able to open anything until we gave the permissions and stuff. The others like Hotmail, etc. couldn’t see anything either because it asked for a Gmail account directly. But we haven’t used it for a while and I don’t know if any changes have been made after that.

Ugh, Drive is so confusing… looking through Google Support pages, apparently you can “link” an email to Drive even if it’s not Gmail, but you have to create a password like you would do creating a new account… that’s just so confusing to me

So I restricted a random video in my drive, the I couldn’t share the link to anyone that didn’t have a Gmail, but I was able to copy the link and send it. I copied the link and sent it to my iCloud email, I made sure to sign out of drive on my iPad so it wouldn’t open the link through there somehow., but I was able to view the video, again that was just a link to a video, idk if it would work the same with an entire folder

That..I’ll have to get back to you on. I’ll have to try it myself and see how it goes

But I think that's only if the link is open for everyone, right? If I want to restrict access, people invited to the folder need a gmail (that's what I thought)

Non Gmail users can access Google Drive files and folders via a link sent to them..I’m 85% positive
