Cloudburst Chariot

Weapon (greatsword), very rare (requires attunement)

This intricately decorated sword is a distinct weapon belonging to the Azure Dragon Clan, one of the ruling families in the Svargiya mountain range and a key member of the Hundred Guardians Alliance. The blade was crafted in honor of the clan’s ancestral guardian, the Blue Wyrm, also known as the Cloud Wyrm. Forged from iron ore mined from the mountain spire that the wyrm calls home and tempered with its shed scales, the sword is imbued with the wyrm's power to control the weather and summon lightning.

Known as the Cloudburst Chariot, the sword holds immense power but is dangerously unstable. It gathers and stores massive amounts of electrical energy, growing more deadly with each surge. However, once it reaches full capacity, the sword releases all of its energy in a violent burst, sending uncontrolled bolts of lightning in all directions. This devastating power poses a grave threat not only to enemies but to the wielder and anyone nearby. Only those who have mastered the Azure Dragon Clan's ancient martial arts can safely harness the sword's chaotic energy.

The Cloudburst Chariot grants a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this weapon. The sword accumulates electrical charges as you move and attack. For every 20 feet you move on your turn, you gain 1 charge. Each successful hit with the weapon also grants 1 charge. The sword can store up to 20 charges. All stored charges dissipate if the weapon gains no charges within 1 minute.

As the charges build, a dark storm cloud begins to gather, swirling above and around you, crackling with lightning and rolling with thunder. As the charges build up, the sword becomes stronger and gains additional effects:

• 5+ Charges – Static Shock. When the Cloudburst Chariot has 5 or more charges, your melee attacks with the sword deal an additional 1d6 lightning damage as arcs of electricity leap from the blade with each strike.

• 10+ Charges – Thunderous Strike. As the storm clouds thicken, when the Cloudburst Chariot has 10 or more charges, once per turn, when you hit a creature with a melee attack, you can force the target to make a Strength saving throw (DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Strength modifier). On a failed save, the target is knocked prone. On a successful save, the target remains standing but takes an additional 1d6 thunder damage from the sonic boom.

• 15+ Charges – Chain Lightning. When the sword accumulates 15 charges, its attacks become conduits for deadly chain lightning. Once per turn, when you hit a creature with a melee attack, the attack deals an additional 2d6 lightning damage. Additionally, the lightning leaps to a second creature within 10 feet of the original target. The secondary target must make a Dexterity saving throw (DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Strength modifier). On a failed save, the secondary target takes 2d6 lightning damage, or half as much on a successful save.

• 20 Charges – Tempest Fury. When the Cloudburst Chariot reaches its full charge of 20, the storm breaks loose. The next successful melee attack you make automatically unleashes a lightning storm. Two bolts of lightning strike from the storm clouds in random directions, creating 30-foot-long, 5-foot-wide lines. Roll 2d8 to determine the direction of the lightning strikes relative to your position (1 = north, 2 = northeast, etc.). Each creature in the path of these lightning strikes must make a Dexterity saving throw (DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Strength modifier). On a failed save, creatures take 4d6 lightning damage, or half damage on a successful save. After the storm subsides, all charges are expended, and the sky clears.
