WrestleTalk Extra (And General) Update!

LUKE: Hello!

Just a little update on WrestleTalk Extra and where we want to take the show. The key is, it's all remaining the same. But with some changes.

Comments

Broken Hardy’s would be fascinating

Marcus A Campbell

I'm really excited for the new story arc idea that you guys are doing with this podcast! I think it's a great way to refresh not only the current format of the podcast but also refresh us on wrestling history and how things evolved not only during a course of a previous year but also how it has affected the current times.

Darius Spegal

I very happy with these new ideas, best of luck ... go Wrestletalk ❤️

Sean Dunne

I love the idea of the story arcs! Great idea guys. Would love to see some 90's stories covered. Maybe the initial Taker Vs Kane story? Also very relieved that you're keeping the audio format! You had me worried for a moment! 😅

Ben Wallace

09 Jeff Hardy/Punk fued would be really fun

@cameronomega

I hate to be negative, but personally, I'm not too excited about the idea of covering story arcs that long. In the past, if you reviewed a show that I already knew all about or just didn't care much for, I would just think "oh well, there's gonna be something different next month anyway." Now if that happens (like with the SHIELD story that I've seen all of and heard about a bunch already), it's gonna be a full six months before there's anything else I might be more interested in.

Henrik

Claire Lynch story

Square root of negative one

PLEEEEASE. Do Aces and Eights

Handsome Dave

But we need heroes of wrestling at some point pwetty please🥺

Alex Ran 814

I apologize in advance for the negativity because your content is really appreciated. However…. You paywall submissions and then say submissions are down. You remove intros and outros and say don’t worry there’s behind WT and mailbag. Then that gets removed. Now Sat & Tempest are gone Sat E days. Polls are indicators not gospel or a justification to remove content you were removing anyway apparently. It’s disingenuous and, after 2023, maybe your community deserves more. Again I’m not going anywhere as a patron for now. I appreciate what you do. But sometimes I don’t think you have your finger on the community pulse. Maybe I’m wrong. Thanks for the update. Take care.

Greg T

I really like the arc idea, the three TNA shows back to back to back are great episodes of the extra podcasts and I often go back and listen.. However I feel that committing to this new format from January to June may be slightly too long to begin with. On a personal level I'm also not that interested in listening to 6 months of the shields break-up but that's just me. I understand you've now committed to the new format however I'd have potentially have started with a slight shorter arc? An example could be doing the Royal Rumble 2015 through to Mania 31? (I don't think you've reviewed RR15, FL15 and WM31 and I know this time period is really unpopular but like I say it's just an example) This would've given us all a trial of the new format and if it's not well received by the community or its not working for you guys that could allow for a potential tweak to the format again, rather than committing to 6 months of storyline out the gate?

George Pratt

I really liked the mailbag podcasts. I Watch them multiple times a month. But look forward to seeing more wt extra especially now with video

Chris deaton

Excited for the changes. I think it’s a great idea to do the back-to-back pay-per-view idea with going over various raw and smack down episodes in between. I’d even be happy for a raw and smack down wrestletalk extra.

Jamie Gerwin

I still watch that Wrestletalk video about Retribution's names. Luke's line "RETRIBUTION HAVE SILLY NAMES...and they're HILARIOUS" is in my head once a month. This sounds like a great idea, as much as I love the podcasts I was always a little disappointed when it'd jump around between "weird TNA show, bad WCW show, bad/middling/decent WWE show. I'm a growing Patron, I need consistency!

Dr. Judge, Private Eye

Me too, I’m dropping my tier to 10$ from 25 cause voting for the polls was the only reason I payed that amount

Evan Reich

Really good idea , giving modern OSW style reviews im doing 05 run from wm to no mercy ppv guess you class it as the Cena true rise.

soLogiki

Love Wrestletalk whatever you do guys! Have a great 2024. Fan since 2018, you guys got me back into wrestling that and ROH too. God bless you healthy and happy! Daniel McAvoy

Daniel McAvoy

As long as the episodes of WrestleTalk Extra are as long as they usually are then I’m happy. Can’t wait for the video versions nonetheless, love you guys

Captain Nick

Cheers oh can't wait for that battleground show bray losing to y2j eesh

Graeme Scrivener

If I’m honest, I know last year wasn’t easy with all the drama. With Oli being off of 3 of the shows, I thought he was done. I genuinely read the title and thought “They’re changing the hosts of the WrestleTalk extra”. The fact that’s not the news is great, and I realised that as long as it stays Oli and Luke, I won’t complain about anything. I’ll certainly give the video format a go and probably will prefer it as I often do with podcast, but keeping Oli and Luke as hosts is what will keep me subscribed

acdp94

LUKE: Yeah it says in that free episode that it's a taste of what you can expect if you sign up. It won't be a monthly thing.

WrestleTalk

LUKE: I've always got a plan

WrestleTalk

LUKE: Full shows are still getting reviewed. The show format remains the same.

WrestleTalk

Any chance you could rotate through promotions (at least loosely) while doing this? For instance chuck an NJPW title reign (Okada, tanahashi, nakamura), or god forbid an AEW storyline (ex. Hangman v. Kenny) even though you have covered them since inception? I'd like to hear a more in depth take with hindsight and the added context.

BC_Auron

Please finish the year 2000 and make a super cut

Chris Merryman

I don't know if this has already been done, but could an archive be built of the ones you've already reviewed to make it easier to follow story arcs that have already been kinda reviewed in the old format. I know this is something I could do myself but I'm lazy...

Josh Hood

Btw I noticed a Wrestletalk extra from TNA dropped in my free podcast feed, is that like a sample to those who aren’t Patreon or is that a monthly change as well

Darren Lloyd

Sorry more people don’t like them, I always looked forward to BTS and After Dark

Darren Lloyd

HBK/Jericho in 2008 would be an awesome arc to cover.

James Paine

and mild sexism 💀

The Dimbot

Luke, when you said this was the only way you'd get to review tna from 2005-2006, your true motivations for this format change became clear.

Owen jackson

Yess love to see this story get the time it deserves

Isaac Octave

So we not going to listen to the whole ppv on the ones you have selected

Graeme Scrivener

So basically WT Extra is becoming something like OSW Review and AE Podcast amongst others where they do story arcs instead. I think this is a great idea then because like you guys said, most of the big PPVs have been done already. I will miss the poll stuff just to see what random show would get chosen but this is a good alternative. Shame that the Mailbag and BTS stuff is gone now but guess no one listened to them, as Oli said (I was one of those that did though).

Darren Moore

Aces and eights would be an amazing series

ItzSmashley

Hogan era TNA, Good TNA... potato potato tomato tomato

Kevin Fleuriot

LUKE: After Dark isn't going anywhere!

WrestleTalk

LUKE: We have talked about TNA... and it's not Hogan era TNA. It's the *good* TNA.

WrestleTalk

I would like you to do Ric Flairs first run in WWF

Shaun Pickles

these all sound great i'm excited, gonna miss the variety of the podcasts like going from 06 to 2014 to 98 but this sounds so much better i'm excited for the FIRST VIDEO EDITION of the podcast

Bdazzle

This is exactly what I wanted you guys to do, awesome stuff! Just wrong promotion/ time period combo for me personally... I'd rather hear about stuff I havnt seen yet, NJPW, TNA, ROH etc hell even some Jim Crockett from the 80s. I'm sure this run will still be fun, so bring it on, can't wait lads!

Adam Gallick

Sad to see After Dark and Behind the Scenes end, hopeful for the new direction for Extra!

Joe S.

Also don't ask me to suggest TNA, because you're gonna review some Hogan era BS so be ready

Kevin Fleuriot

I like the idea of story arcs because, even though I love the randomness of the polls and the podcasts are always amazing, the story continuation will get me more excited to listen each month! Looking forward to this idea 👍

Callum Lucas

Summer of Punk from Money in the bank (although they already reviewed it) to Survivor Series 2011 would be quite fun

Kevin Fleuriot

I liked the randomness of the polls and was looking forward to you guys getting to the more obscure shows. That said, the story arcs are a great idea and I'm looking forward to hearing the next few months of them, even if it is 2014 WWE. Suggestion for a future one- Reboot Nitro- Fall Brawl 2000. All the best/worst of WCW 2000 insanity in less than six months.

Andrew Baylis

I love this new idea. I think Story Arcs is the best way to do a Wrestling Review Podcast.

Homerstar

I'd really like to see this being used as a chance to look at storylines from time long past or from smaller promotions that you're less likely to track down as your average punter. Like the Aces and Eights example - I'm never going to have the time and energy to go back and watch it but I'd love a series on it.

Nick Devine

That makes sense. I can't expect you to cater just for me. Is there a possibility of rerunning the survey in a few months though. I foe one stupidly didn't fill in the survey which is on me. But I suspect it may be an issue of "you don't know what you've got until its gone" and that the podcasts were actually quite popular, or maybe that's just wishful thinking on my part. But rerunning the survey in a few months would confirm one way or another

Glyn Matthews

Appreciate it, I don't want to come of as harsh and I know it's hard to keep track of some times, the joy of this is you guys having fun after all and it's easy to get swept up in that. Keeping it in mind is all I ask and I thank you for doing so

That Welsh Guy

You’re not alone, loved those too

Ray Prado

I liked the random ppvs monthly, mailbag, After Dark, and BTS…..I love Wrestletalk but Im not too excited for this new direction

Ray Prado

LUKE: We're only going by what the polls and surveys came back with. We enjoyed making them, but it wasn't what the vast majority wanted from our Patreon.

WrestleTalk

LUKE: The content of the show will remain the same, really. Even when we're playing videos on screen, you'll be able to hear them. But I will keep this in mind as I know it can annoy!

WrestleTalk

I’m so excited

“HE RAN” Aaron Hanrahan

As someone who lived through the intros and outros becoming video's can you please not do a bunch of visual gags like you have in the past. these are perfect audio content for long journeys and I could really go without random silences as you decide to do another staring contest or try and mime something.

That Welsh Guy

Hell yeah! can't wait!

Mark Sauvie

It’s going be like OSW but without the racism

Nathan

Starting in 2014. The Mayor of Painsville getting screwed over again. Justice for Battleground 2013.

DANiel 'The Mayor of Painsville' Schachtmeier

I love those too!

Henrik

and Luke has just said that’s what you are doing

Nathan

Story arcs would be nice

Nathan

Am I in the minority? I really loved the mail bag, after dark and BTS podcasts really miss them

Glyn Matthews

when did wrestletalk hire kevin dunn??

Arron Smith

Wrestletalk sucks!
