Patreon Newsletter #42: April 2025

Magic Tavern Updates/News:

From Arnie:

A packed month, mostly with work stuff. Went into the office more than usual this month for a lot of playtests of future games. They’re looking good!

Also a lot of busy behind the scenes stuff for Magic Tavern. We celebrated ten years but were really too busy with future stuff to pull out the stops as much as a ten year anniversary maybe deserves. So, as I said in the episode, we reserve the right to keep celebrating for months and months and months. We also recorded a bunch of future episodes for Evil April (and beyond) and let me say we have some great eps with incredible guests coming soon.

TV – In no particular order.

Movies – Best to less best. The majority of these were rewatching old movies.

Video Games

Split Fiction

Escape Academy

Balatro

Board Games

Blood on the Clocktower - Continues to be a blast to play this at Rush’s house. I still think we should consider doing some Patreon bonus content where we play the game together… but it might be too complicated for some. That said, I’VE been enjoying watching some games on YouTube, especially the Rob Has a Podcast games with former Survivor players.

From Adal:

Here’s what I consumed in March. Let me know if you have any recommendations for me!

UDPATE from MATT March 2025

We had a great March! Happy 10th Anniversary!

I’m switching up the format here, because I’ve been busy and don’t have much to report. Sorry to be posting this late! Adal sent us a reminder and I just lost track of time.

Gundam Report: I finished Double Zeta Gundam and Char’s Counterattack. I’m trying to get some of the other Gundam shows on blu-ray (I was all in on streaming and now I’ve done a 180), but they can be crazy expensive. And annoyingly, I’ve been able to find deals on many season sets where I only got Volume 1, but not Volume 2 or (even worse) vice versa. But it’s a start.

Jessye and I watched all three of the Anne of Green Gables movies (starring Megan Follows). Great stuff!

I attended the iHeartRadio Podcast Awards in Austin, TX (happening during SXSW). We won the Best Fiction award! Jessye went with me and we walked our first red carpet and saw some friends and some celebrities (from far away). They sat us down in front, and I thought maybe I was going to have to go up and give a speech, but (fortunately?) it was just announced in the montage.

Still slowly wedding planning but going to kick that into high gear!

Matt

Yessss RHAP Clocktower! I also love watching Dwight Moore's Clocktower games on Twitch on Saturdays with Survivors, Big Brother players and podcasters.

I hope this isn't too obnoxious - if you all are looking for more video games... I turned Offices & Bosses S1 into an RPG to celebrate 10 years! It would be AMAZING if you guys (or any of the other fans here, really) tried it out and/or let the other guests know, especially Brooke because Flower's the best 😄 ~3h of gameplay and 60+ Easter eggs. Adal, If you end up in Edinburgh on your Scotland trip. Seek out a comedy club called “The monkey barrel” And the vaults tour (under the city) is a cracker!

Everyone needs to tell me their reactions to split fiction! I absolutely loved it

You guys should check out StarKid Productions if you haven’t yet! I know you’ve had several of the people on the show in the early days (Lauren Lopez, Meredith Stepien) they have amazing plays and most recently they just released Cinderella’s Castle on YouTube! 💚

Just a lil note to the Guys, take it or leave it. If you're ever feeling like you're running low on patreon content, I suggest you guys do some gameplay recorded runs of the horror comedy survival game, R.E.P.O., in Magic Tavern characters. It's a wild game.

Scotland recs for Adal Edinburgh - Edinburgh Castle offers great views of the city, but at the end of the day it's just a Castle. I would check out the items you want to see there (audio tour is great), but I wouldn't spend more than 3 hours there. - Hollyrood House, the king's Edinburgh residence. As long as it's not being visited by the royal family you can tour the interior. It's more intimate than Buckingham Palace and you still get those royalty vibes. - The Real Mary King's Close. This is a DO NOT MISS. Take of tour of subterranean Edinburgh and discover how the residents lived back when. Lots of residences are original and it's dark and spooky. Sells out quickly so book far in advance. - Panda and Sons, underground speakeasy. It's something of a 2010s sanitized speakeasy (not dark grim victorian) but it's an interesting place to get a drink. They do great experimental cocktails. West Highlands - Honestly, renting a car and driving through the highlands was great (as long as the weather was even slightly good). We drove from Edinburgh out to the Isle of Skye and here's some things along the way. - Glencoe National Nature Reserve, beautiful natural area with footpaths for some light hiking. Just driving through on A82 is recommended on the way to Fort William. - The Jacobite Steam Train, an out and back ride on a steam train leaving Fort William, This is the famous train from the Harry Potter movies that crosses the viaduct. Recommended for the old timey steam train ride. - Eileen Donan Castle, famous Castle built out into a loch. One of the better Castle tours. - The Isle of Skye is very pretty when it's clear out. I'd skip driving up to the Old Man of Storr if you're pressed for time. Loch Ness - A cruise on Loch Ness is touristy, but it's fun to cruise around the lake and try to spot Nessie. Not worth a day trip from Edinburgh but if driving, even stopping for the view is nice. Distilleries - There's a lot and all the tours are kind of the same. Pick ones that either you're very interested in or are nearby to other scheduled activities. - My favorite was Dalwhinnie (on the way back to Edinburgh from Skye/Loch Ness), where they paired each whisky with a different chocolate for the tasting.

Ahh yes Shrek. The most dangerous game.

Adal, im an expat who’s lived in rural Scotland for 11 years. Happy to provide recommendations and particularly for the fishing villages/Fife

Cory Hey

Adal, if you get the chance while in Scotland spend some time in Edinburgh. It’s such a cool city, you can’t help but find fun, weird things to do. I just realized my pic was taken there, right outside the castle. Also, they don’t allow dogs in the castle.

Abbie Mearns

I forgot! I'll post something tomorrow.

Matt Young

Where’s Matt!?

Casey Campbell

Me glancing at Arnie's list "Hey why is a Star Trek movie las... Oh, insurrection, right. Nevermind."

Sam Lovejoy

Adal do you listen to TV Chef Fantasy League? If you're a top chef fan it's a hoot

Yael Wylie

Please do some Blood on the Clocktower! It’d be fun to see you play in person, but you could also use the official app and play online. That would probably be easier for Patreon content, but anything would be incredible!
