Patreon Newsletter #10: August 2022

Quite a jam packed July, but speaking of packing, I’m moving in a couple days and still have to pack most of my house (on top of a shockingly busy week for everything else) so I’m going to keep this short.
The highlight of the month was going to New York with a friend for a long weekend. Saw Into the Woods on Broadway which was incredible. A fair number of substitutions in the cast (which I think is just the nature of things right now) including Gavin Creel, who I went to high school with. Would have been cool to see him perform but the show was so good I have no complaints. Brian Darcy James was especially great. I also got to see a taping of the Late Show with Stephen Colbert and afterwards have dinner with Steve Waltein and Kate James (Tomblaine and Tricia) who I hadn’t seen in person in years.
TV – The tv I watched this month from favorite to less favorite. I enjoyed all of it.
- The Bear
- The Old Man
- Stranger Things s4 pt2
Movies – Same deal: best to… least best.
- The Apartment (my favorite movie)
- All that Jazz
- Cabaret
- Luca
- Minions: The Rise of Gru
- Sweet Charity
One Last Thing – In the comments let me know if you were moving this week, what’s one thing you’d throw away instead of moving with.

From Matt:
What a month! I went to NYC, Spain, and Indiana!
Celebrated a friend’s 50th birthday in Barcelona. His family moved to Switzerland a few years ago and it was great to see him and catch up with other friends and family who were there to celebrate. I went to New York the previous weekend with my partner and we saw Company, American Buffalo, and Beetlejuice! Indiana is still Indiana.
TV/Movies/Web stuff:
Rewatching The Office (US). Enjoying Rhett and Link stuff on GMM. Planning to dig into Severance after seeing three of the eps on a plane.
Books (all audio again):
Finished The Broken Kingdoms. About to hop into Kingdom of Gods. I have to finish the Inheritance series so I can get through everything else Jemisin has written.
Games:
Still working through Spider-Man on PS5. Traveling kept me from my friendly neighborhood duties. Also finally learned Wingspan and I am obsessed. Need to get some of the digital versions.
Food:
Ate at Olio e Più and a place called Gottino Enoteca E Salumeria in New York. Both were incredible. Gottino is more of a bar with some food, but the food was awesome. Ate a lot of meat in Spain. Delicious ham sandwiches for breakfast. Had some great seafood-heavy tapas that was a 10-minute walk from the beach. Amazing. My friend made delicious sausage and peppers while we were in Indiana which inspired me to do the same when I got home.
Looking for a new apartment in Chicago. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

From Adal:
Hachi Machi July flew by! Honestly this month was a bit of a blur and I can’t recall what all I was up to but one of the main highlights was doing a live Hey Riddle Riddle show in Chicago over the holiday weekend! It was so wonderful to see/meet a lot of Magic Tavern fans afterwards! Thank ya’ll for being so nice!
I’ve mostly shifted mental gears to prepare for a busy and travel filled August. I’m heading to NYC, New Jersey and Vegas for different obligations. Please let me know if you have recs for any of these places; especially NJ as I’ve never been and only know it from the Sopranos!
Oh! I just got an Occulus Quest 2 yesterday so please let me know what games I should grab! It came with Beat Saber which I love and I plan on getting Superhot.
Hey Riddle Riddle just announced two East Coast live shows in September if you can make it out! We’re doing The Bell House in NYC on September 6th and Union Stage in Washington DC on September 7th! Hope to see some of you there! Tickets and more info at: heyriddleriddle.com/live
Here’s what I consumed in July:
TV:
- The Rehearsal - absolutely brilliant
- Dark Winds
- Big Brother Season 24
- The Challenge: USA - tried a few eps and fell off. I had heard it’s the best reality game show but I just couldn’t get into it
- Reservation Dogs season 2 - easily one of the best things on tv still. Check out season 1 if you have yet to watch!
- Better Call Saul final season pt. 2 - so so good. I think when it’s all said and done I will rank BCS above Breaking Bad
- Stranger Things season 4 pt. 2
- 101 Places to Party Before You Die - delightful. Gabrus and Adam Pally have an effortless charm to them. This show really captures that feeling of you and your friends dicking around in a new city.
- The Resort
- Harley Quinn season 3
- EVIL season 2
- What We Do In the Shadows season 4
- Street Food: USA
Movies:
- Last Night in Soho - I’m late to the game on this but it really hit me hard. I’ll have to revisit in a few months to see if it was just a fluke but I thought this was outstanding.
- Marcel the Shell With Shoes On
- Top Gun: Maverick
- Thor: Love and Thunder
- Gattaca - I had never seen this and Jemma found that insane so we watched together. Very much enjoyed it!
- The Purge - in July I hung out with the Big Grande dudes and they were talking about how interesting the world building is in the Purge movies and I realized I had written them off as something I didn’t need to see so based on their recommendation I decided to watch them all.
- The Purge: Anarchy
- The Purge: Election Year
- The First Purge
- The Forever Purge
- Escape From Mr. Limoncello’s Library - watched high with Erin and it was definitely a movie.
- The Dead Zone
- Chris Claremont’s X-Men documentary
- Norm McDonald: Nothing Special
- South Park: The Streaming Wars
- The Great Mouse Detective
Other Stuffs:
- Played the board game Chinatown
- Played the board game Wingspan - Jemma just taught it to me; we love it!
- Played the board game Trogdor
- Played the video game Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime - maybe the best 4 player video game I’ve ever played? Really creative mechanics and heavily reliant on teamwork and communication.
- Played the video game It Takes Two - maybe the best 2 player game I’ve ever played? Jemma and I are about half-way through and I’m obsessed. So fucking fun.
- Played the video game Stray - adorable.
- Played the Switch version of Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes
- Started reading the book ‘How Iceland Changed The World’
- Listened to the new Arcade Fire album WE
- Listened to Pink Floyd’s- Wish You Were Here after talking to a friend about how it’s a perfect album. Revisit it if you haven’t in awhile!
- Listened finally to the new Diane Coffee - With People. My album of the year so far.
- Listened to and really enjoyed Beyonce’s - RENAISSANCE
- Recently guested on the podcast Too Scary Didn’t Watch. I was on with JPC and we discussed the Christopher Walken film Dead Zone!
Please let me know what you’ve been enjoying so I can check it out!

2022-08-06 06:46:06 +0000 UTCAdal- If you're going to be in South Jersey you should visit Lucy the Elephant in Margate. Who wouldn't want to see a six story elephant shaped building that's been around since 1881?
