I loved watching this series for the first time…. But the second watch through, hits harder because of how things are written since season 1, that we don’t pick up on, until second or third watch through. Great comment for sure.

As far as your main question - why the Warriors don't simply rebel against Marley - which you already partially answered yourself as technology being a factor, you'll unfortunately see this question thoroughly answered in S4. I appreciate how you're already drawing so may parallels between both characters and their actions and just how insanely impressive Isayama's circular writing style is. Isn't it funny how easily Dina's smiling Titan, who you had such a grudge against initially, is humanized upon learning all this information? Eren shouting, "Then who's the enemy?!" to Ymir on the trees in S2 really hits different now. While there was a viewer who said this episode turns your world upside-down, I'll say AOT in S4 gets harder to watch, but in a good way, even though that seems contradictory. Can't wait for more!

It was Eren who wanted to join the Scouts. It was Eren who declared he'd kill all the titans. It was Eren who, at age 9, disobeyed his father and went to rescue Mikasa, a girl he'd never met, from full grown adults that he knew were cold-blooded murderers. It was Eren who was always asking about the basement and wanting to find out the truth of the world. Grisha didn't involve Eren in any of it until there was no choice left - when the walls fell, his wife died and his headstrong son more determined than ever to fight titans with his bare hands.

Children are easily manipulated and grow up with being told how evil their race is, and that they owe their lives to Marley. These kids are brainwashed into fighting for their oppressors, and the people of Paradis are used as scapegoats.

2023-09-15 14:21:20 +0000 UTCObligatory 3x20 things you could've missed: 1) The bald man from the Marley Public Security states how people actually love to see cruelty. That's when he breaks the 4th wall because what usually follows is us taking enjoyment from the titan eating the man. 2) When Grice asks Grisha how he managed to decipher the ancient scripts about Ymir he answers his question in a way that indicates how it was more of a blind faith rather than solid evidence he got from the history books. Restorationists might be just as wrong (or right) as the Marleyan Government's propaganda. 3) Before Dina is turned into titan she promises Grisha to find him whatever form she takes. Well... 4) Some of the titans from the Trost arc in the first season can be seen in this episode as Restorationists group members. 5) One of the nine titans you missed was Ymir's titan. That leaves room for one more intelligent titan yet unrevealed. 6) Make sure to revisit The return to Shiganshina arc for better context of what Bertholdt's, Reiner's and Zeke's dialogues really meant. What made no sense back then will ring a bell now that you have better understanding of the show. There may be more but I don't remember. Waiting for your next reactions bro.
