Changing Direction

It’s been a while since I had regular Patreon updates, and I’m realizing that it’s a symptom of a shift in focus that I’ve been going through over the past few years now. Between my extant personality, having such a hard time getting friends together to actually play, and a deep cynicism about the industry, I’m not quite as enthusiastic about TTRPGs as I used to be. I haven’t given them up or anything—in fact I just started a Scum & Villainy campaign with some friends—but my aspirations in that realm have changed and I’ve taken up some other hobbies that compete for my attention.

The big thing that means for this Patreon is that I’m going to shift the focus of it a bit. A lot of the content will still be TTRPG related, but I’m going to try branching out into other topics a bit, albeit still nerdy, indoor stuff. Doing tables every single month has stopped being sustainable and started to feel like a chore at best, plus it’s gotten harder to come up with good topics for them after doing so many. So, going forward instead of a monthly table pack and Secret Bonus Table, I’m going to be posting a Thing of the Month and a Secret Bonus Thing. These will be game drafts, zines, essays, prose, and yes, tables too when I can get up the motivation.

If this change (or anything else) makes you decide to reduce or cancel your pledge, although I’ll be sad to see you go, no hard feelings. I’m grateful for what support I do get, and these are difficult times for everyone.

On the TTRPG front the main thing I've been working on is Podcast From Another World, which is an improv RPG thing where you pretend to do a podcast from a fantasy world, in the vein of Hello From the Magic Tavern. After a few playtests I've made some improvements and I'm generally happy with how it's coming together, and I'll be posting a draft of the rules soon. In the meantime, here's some rough art of the archetypes from the game, specifically the Guest (in this case a lich), Human, Adventurer (a paladin), Atomic Ranger, Talking Animal, Weird Monster, and Wizard.
