Version 2.0 of My Patreon

I’ve been thinking about this for a while, but I want to restructure my Patreon into a monthly format that will hopefully produce more content and more engagement. I’m thinking of kicking this off in January, launching the new format at the start of 2019.

I’ve been doing about 2-4 games per year, but I’ve been slowing down as I’ve started doing longer and more ambitious games with more detailed settings. I want to open up my process, so a big part of the revamped Patreon will be sharing excerpts and drafts of what I’m working on. I’ve made a habit of posting screenshots of Word on Twitter, and it’s been a good way to share what I’m enthusing about with my own creations before they’re ready to publish. There will probably be a process of feeling out how many posts and of what type are best, but I expect to do, say, 1-3 posts per month, including an excerpt of some kind in each post and an outright playable draft every now and then.

Tabletop RPGs are going to continue to be the core of this whole thing, but I do other projects now and then, which I’ll be sharing as I try to get better at things that aren’t RPGs. I have multiple unfinished novels, I work on the occasional card game, and I really want to get around to learning to make Twine games.

The other big thing I want to do is to make random tables a major part of the Patreon, since it’s become one of my major signature things. A couple years ago (inspired by Lee’s Lists) I started self-publishing packs of four or so d66 tables for generating various things. Some are serious business and can be useful for writers, GMs, and other creative types, while others are basically a weird kind of comedy, and a lot of them are somewhere in between. I’ve done enough of them to put out a POD “Ewen’s Tables Collection” book, and I've continued doing more since then, usually just whenever the mood strikes me.

My idea is to do a new pack of tables every month, plus a ~Secret Bonus Table~ for the higher-level patrons. The Secret Bonus Tables will be especially interesting and/or silly, and while I don’t think I’ll make them patron-exclusive forever, they’ll definitely be patron-exclusive for a good while, and probably only appear as bonuses in big table collections.

I’m planning to divide this into three tiers:

$1/Month: Random Support

You’ll get access to regular updates on what I’m working on, with information on and excerpts of whatever games and other project I’m working on. Once a month I’ll also do a new Ewen’s Tables PDF, which you’ll get for free.

$2/Month: Bonus Support Tier

In addition to that, you’ll get the final PDFs of all the games and other projects done through this Patreon, and where I do POD versions, you’ll get a DriveThruRPG discount code too. Oh, and you’ll qualify for the monthly Secret Bonus Table!

$3/Month: Super-Secret Fun Club

On top of that, I’ll send you a postcard with each major release, and I’ll try to work in references to you in games and such when I can.

So yeah. That's what I'm thinking of doing, and I'd welcome any feedback. In the meantime, check out one of my sillier table collections, Leftover Tables 2.
