My girlfriend is from KZ. Of course, it's poor, after all they were brutally dominated by Soviet Russia for many years and now live under a Russia friendly dictatorship. The country is landlocked except for the Caspian Sea, so they have to pay a premium to import everything. Chinese and Russian censorship and propaganda pretty much dominates the airways, but the people are still somewhat independent thinkers and attempted a rebellion early in 2022, which was put brutally suppressed by Russian troops when their president feared losing his grip. They hate the idea that Russia still runs their country by proxy and reject the idea, though it is sadly, somewhat true. They are very Muslim and therefore extremely misogynistic and patriarchal, and anti-Semitic. Potassium is, indeed, their chief export! Still, most of the younger generation desperately want to be modern, and attitudes are changing. They love American and western shows, and tend to pirate everything we make through Russian websites!
