Different subject: Your comments at the end about everybody being "complicated" was spot on. Even Kate was not a pure figure. Her bosses told her, unequivocally, the she need not worry about being out of bounds because the boundary had been moved by people who had the authority to move it. Her going back in, after that, was a violation of her alleged principles but, her desire to be "in the know" overrode them. Kate was a bad girl, and it nearly cost her her life.
