Another good one (with our friend Robert Downey Junior as well as a few others) is Zodiac, a movie about the real life Zodiac killer. Not quite as gross as this one, but still very tense and scary. I like how you put it - that this is more like a "Horror" film rather than a thriller. I'd agree, or say that it's definitely like a psychological horror. The only ray of sunshine we get is Somerset deciding he won't turn his back on the world. He had to see true darkness before he saw the light. You almost had the ticking thing that Somerset uses - it's called a metronome. Something else in a similar vein is True Detective, the TV series first season - which is arguably the best single-season of television ever made. Also, I'd recommend for a more horror vibe (without the gore) you check out a 90s movie called Fallen. And for more (young) Brad Pitt with a different horror vibe, try Interview with a Vampire. I guarantee you'll like all of those movies, hopefully they'll come up in polls soon!
