HP: The Salazar's Heir Chapter 46
Added 2024-03-12 13:46:25 +0000 UTCChapter 46: I Agree.
Sebastian stood outside the medical room, mostly because the matron asked to not gather a crowd around Harry. So, the heir walked outside, letting the boy and the headmaster talk about the necessary details.
‘The story of a failed dark lord does not involve me.’ He mused, trying to recall all the famous dark lords that he could think of.
And well, there were quite a lot.
‘From my study, this Voldemort guy was not that strong. He was ridiculously influential, but not someone that could wage war alone.’ He recalled what he read, ‘This person’s story is intertwined with Harry’s. So, I will let him deal with it.’
He was not going to get involved. And the only way he would even consider looking into the matter was if it somehow ended up causing him trouble with his lordship.
‘Why am I even thinking of such things?’ He wondered, ‘This should be the last thing on my list of worries.’
He knew that he thought a lot, often about unnecessary things and these monologues in a way made him lose focus and time.
But he was getting more and more aware of this, and was also working on fixing this habit.
‘Learning to cut out distraction, noises and focusing on the important things is a must for me.’
He heard Dumbledore gasp from inside the room. He guessed that Harry must have told the old man about Voldemort and considering how Dumbledore and everyone acted regarding the name –he guessed it was probably quite the show.
‘Not my issue.’ With that, he took out a certain red stone from inside his pocket, ‘It’s time to meet your owner.’
After Sebastian came out of Salazar’s door, he lied to Dumbledore about it being a memory room kept to let the heir know about the past.
Of course, the old man did not buy it but he could not pry either. And Sebastian knew that the founders must have left something for the headmasters too. Otherwise, it would be a guard-keeping job without a reward and from what he knew, none of the founders let people work for free.
‘I wonder what he got as a reward for gatekeeping?’
Another question that he couldn’t get an answer for, at least, not easily.
As for the Philosopher’s Stone.
It was in his hand.
“Nicolas Flamel.”
That’s who he was supposed to meet and return the stone to. Upon his request, Dumbledore allowed him to personally deliver the stone, which was surprising but definitely within his estimation.
‘He definitely knows how dangerous the stone is,’ he stared at the stone. ‘But for him to agree to me delivering it, he must have already told Flamel about it.’
Dumbledore was a difficult person to read. But each time Sebastian made an assumption about the old man, it turned out to be quite accurate.
And this time was no different.

[Unknown Location]
Sitting inside a chamber built of old wood, was a man with graying hair and wrinkled skin. His body was weak, nails long, and back crooked. But despite it all, he had no disease and his will was stronger than most younglings.
“Dear, you should rest.” The soft voice of an old lady bounced around his ear. “You have been sitting there for hours now.”
The man, however, was neither tired nor bored. Instead, he sat with a calm and hopeful expression.
“We are about to have a guest, Perenelle.” He said, “I cannot let him come and not have me there to greet him. That would be quite shameful on my part.”
“Do you think you will find that answer that you are looking for?” Perenelle asked, “That ‘we’ are looking for?”
Nicolas smiled, one that was neither happy nor sad. It was just a smile, one without emotions.
“We have lived long enough that our senses have dulled, our enthusiasm died centuries ago.” He stared into his wife’s eyes. “My research is complete, our dreams were fulfilled and because of that, our view on life has also distorted.” The old man explained, calmly. “Dumbledore is a man who has passed the years where his view was unbiased. He is not someone who can answer us.”
“So, you are hoping for a child to give you answers?” Perenelle asked, genuinely curious.
“Children are unbiased, and this child is special.” He finally laughed, “A child might be a weird term. Considering the time he remained frozen, he is older than both of us but still… his mind is that of a child.”
He looked at his wife, “And him being from an entirely different age of magic and being forced to adjust to the present… he is the perfect answer to all of our questions, Perenelle.”
For years, he had been lost. After the completion of his research, he felt himself with a question without an answer.
What does a man do, who has fulfilled all the goals that he had set, fulfilled the dreams that he had dreamt and was left with no purpose.
For years now, Flamel believed that he was simply staying alive –existing as he was immortal.
He even felt scared. After all, was it all even worth it? Now that he was sitting with his wife, with a question that threatened the very reason of his existence.
If the completion of his dreams left him empty, was it even worth having dreams? Was it even worth pursuing everything and wasting over six centuries?
Nicolas Flamel needed answers, and sadly, there was no one who could answer him.
Not Dumbledore, not his wife Perenelle and certainly not himself.
However, he felt that his questions would be answered soon. And for reasons that he could not explain, he felt the answers reaching him soon.
“My love, please prepare something.” He requested, “I feel like our guest is arriving soon.”
And this time around, maybe he was going to have his answers.
…
…
[Hogwarts’ Hallway]
Dressed in his Slytherin cloak over his uniform, Sebastian walked the hallway of Hogwarts –looking for a certain man.
‘Is he in class?’ He wondered, ‘But he does not have any classes at this hour.’
Not finding the man that he was looking for at the office, he went around looking through the classes of hogwarts.
“I need to give him the answer before going out.”
And that is when he heard the voice.
“What sort of answer, Mr. Slytherin?”
The very familiar voice instantly made Sebastian turn back, and as he did –he stood in front of the familiar face of Severus Snape.
“Professor.” The heir greeted the man, “I wish you a good day.”
Snape nodded, before staring curiously at the boy.
“Good day, Slytherin.” He greeted back before asking, “But I doubt you had been walking around just to greet people.”
Snape wasn’t wrong, Sebastian did have a very good reason. And the reason involved him as much as it involved the heir.
“I was looking for you, professor.” The heir said, enticing a raised eyebrow from the supervisor of Slytherin.
“And might I ask why?” The man asked, his curiosity peaking.
This was when Sebastian gave an answer that Snape was not expecting. Or well, an answer that he was not expecting at such a random hour and place.
“I am willing to work with you, Professor.” The heir said, “As an intern under you, learning potions.”
An unexpected answer, but definitely not an unwelcome one.

[[A/N: I believe for a man who created a ridiculously overpowered item like the Philosopher’s Stone, it is a shame to not have his character have any proper scenes. Even in the books, we had almost no proper scenes other than the references about him. He even sacrificed his eternal life and we got nothing –So, I am trying to explore his character a little.
Though, do tell me if you think this is unnecessary or I am going too off track. And also, I would like to know about what you think of the pace. Do you like it? Do you think it is moving too slow or too fast? Or would you like me to stick to Harry’s plot or would like to see the magical world created by Rowling explored a little more?
P.S. Quite a few people don’t know this, but Flamel was a real person. Here is a wiki link if you want to learn more about him.
