Marvel: King of Mythology Chapter 33

Chapter 33: One of the Girls (That I Hate)

After over a week of break from classes –mostly because half the university was in tatters post the science fair– we were finally back on campus.

If anything had changed, that was the architecture.

They made the place prettier.

Better paint, better woodwork and definitely better architecture.

But that isn’t what I am interested in.

I am interested in the crowd.

“She is finally back.”

I heard a few girls gossip.

“It has been quite lonely without her.”

The girl they were talking about was someone I knew.

Or well, I had seen her a few times and Gwen did inform me that she was coming back to classes.

“Ugh! I cannot stand that bitch.”

But well, with popularity came hate.

“I know right? It isn’t even like she got a job, she just appeared in the fucking news once.”

And she had quite a lot of haters.

But it doesn’t matter. Her supporters or haters mean nothing to me.

Sadly, she did mean a lot to someone.

And walking past the crowd, I saw the very person I meant.

“Hey, Peter.”

Placing my hand over the boy’s shoulder, I drew his attention. He was seemingly lost, and well I could understand why.

“O-Oh, it's you Michael.” He definitely wasn’t at the best state of mind, “I did not expect you to come.”

For those that are wondering what he means.

He means that he is shocked to see me attend classes the day the university reopened.

If it wasn’t clear, I am not known for being a regular student.

“That hurts.” I said, obviously jokingly,  “I am trying to be a regular student if you did not catch that earlier.”

And maybe the little act worked as he did show a tiny smile.

“That is a nice resolution.” He said as the crowd grew louder.

This finally made me ask.

I didn't really want to, but realizing that he was affected –I had no choice but to ask.

“Are you okay?”

This immediately made him clench his fists, which he tried to hide.

“Y-Yeah, I am.”

He wasn’t.

“It is okay.” I know how difficult it is to walk away from your past. “I know it takes time. But in the end, you will be fine.”

He had grown on me.

He felt like a brother, witty but hiding his emotions.

The boy gave a nod, not truly believing my words, but at least trying to.

There was no other choice but to try, because if he didn’t, he would only feel worse.

“Ah, she is finally here.”

Someone said and this nearly made the boy jerk. Thankfully, two pats over his shoulder got him back to his senses.

“It is okay,” I said, “Just play it cool, even if you don’t mean it.”

And as I said that, I finally saw the person.

Walking through a crowded corridor, quite a lot of students surrounding her –as if she was a celebrity.

And apparently she was.

She had done an internship with the biggest journalism organization under a branch of Frost International –She also did news anchoring as part of a special bonus.

Most importantly, if what I heard from Gwen is correct, then she might have also gotten a full-time anchoring offer from Frost International’s news branch.

Quite a big thing but that still didn't make me like her.

“I-I should go to class, I guess.” Peter said, not wanting to stand there.

“It is okay.” I assured him, “You will be fine.”

He had to face her one day, and the quicker he realized that, the better it was.

She walked through the crowd, walking closer to her locker which was awfully close to where Peter and I stood.

As the spectacled boy and I stood, she finally walked closer –noticing Peter.

“Peter!” She exclaimed, seemingly excited to see him. “How are you?”

Really?

That’s how she acts?

“I-I am fine.” The boy smiled, obviously a fake one. “How about you, MJ?”

Mary-Jane Watson, possibly the most popular girl in Midtown University and a girl that all the boys swooned over.

Red hair, pretty eyes, pretty face –a beauty.

“Ain’t too bad,” She grinned, “But missed you a lot though.”

But even a pretty face cannot make me like her.

“O-Oh?”

I saw Peter unable to speak properly, which was quite uncommon. While he was awkward, he was never out of things to talk about.

“You are my friend,” She said, “Why wouldn’t I miss my friend?”

She totally ignored me, and I didn't mind. We never talked to begin with, so it was fair that I was only a side character for her.

And that wasn’t what made me dislike her at all.

It was because of how uncaring she was of the emotions of others.

“Anyway, what have you been up to?” She asked.

“Why is she talking to him?”

“I know right? I thought she disliked him.”

The crowd observed her too, however, they were not against her but they were against Peter.

“What is even good about that nerd?”

“Why is she still friends with him after he used his friendship to confess to her.”

See?

This was what people meant by bias.

No one knew the full story, no one knew that Peter always liked MJ –no one bothered to know.

And all they did was put the blame on him, even though he simply told her what he felt.

All for her to trample over his feelings.

“Just… trying to secure a scholarship.” He said awkwardly, both of them ignoring the crowd’s murmuring. “I missed an internship, so gotta focus on securing a scholarship for now.”

Still felt bad about that, but there wasn’t much I could do. It wasn’t possible to transfer my internship offer.

“I know you can make it.”

But as they talked and I stood a little away from Peter –giving the boy some space to talk –all of us heard a certain familiar voice.

“What do you think you are doing with my girl, dork?”

And this was why I disliked Mary Jane above all other reasons.

“Don’t call him that, Flash,” said a disapproving Mary Jane, “He is my friend.”

Yeah.

The reason I disliked her was not because she rejected Peter in front of everyone or embarrassed him.

But because she did all that just to get together with Peter’s tormentor, his bully.

Fucking Flash.

And that wasn’t the only time she broke his heart.

After all, she dated everyone but Peter.

Even Peter’s best friend Harry.

But…

Never Peter.

[Brooklyn, New York]

Sliding and jumping through the crowd filled roads of Brooklyn, a certain thief made her way out of the chasing cops.

“Catch her!” The deputy yelled, “Caption Stacy will eat us alive if we lose her!”

The entire unit, consisting of seven officers, rushed to catch the thief.

Two of them chased after her in cars, but the traffic, topped with her parkour skills made it near impossible for them to get to her.

If anything, the distance between them and her increased drastically.

“The watch she stole is over ten millions!” The deputy roared, dodging and moving through the traffic. “CATCH HER!”

All while the thief, the woman, the masked beauty laughed and parkoured through the crowd –enjoying every bit of the chase.

The adrenaline, the thrill of the chase and the freedom she felt was unexplainable. She herself was an unexplainable person.

“Give up the diamond, or you will end up in prison!” The cops yelled, “If you surrender now, you will suffer a much easier sentence!”

But it was entirely stupid for them to even expect that she cared.

She didn't care about the law.

She didn't care about the cops.

And she definitely didn’t care about what they said.

‘It wasn’t a bad choice to come during the day.’ She smirked, jumping over the traffic-stuck cars. ‘This is much more challenging, this is much more… fun!’

It was her seventh heist this week.

One heist a day, a challenge she created for herself and a challenge that she completed with the perfect score.

‘And this is the biggest heist yet!’

She challenged herself and went with a bang for her last one.

‘Best fucking decision yet!’

And she didn't regret one bit.

“Stop or we will shoot!”

The cops yelled but she laughed.

“Oh, you wouldn’t want to get the innocents caught up in this mess, officers!” She yelled back, despite yelling the words at the top of her lungs, no one could deny that she had a sweet voice –a seductive voice.

“Stop now!”

But she didn’t and just as they reached a bridge, she vanished skillfully under it.

Leaving a pissed and horrified deputy –yelling her name.

“BLACK CATTTTT!!!”

[[A/N: Boom! Second love interest revealed! And possibly, my favorite girl from the Spiderman comics.

As for the other one, I hate her. And if you think MJ is good then…

You are wrong, I am right.

She is bad.
