It's from the Daily Show, which used to be satire. Em knew it was a joke, and Colbert was famous for doing this kind of skit.

I never had him as a teacher but I heard great things. Stephen was a comedian who got onto comedy central as part of the Daily Show but then got his own show. He was very good at these seemingly real interviews. So made sense he would end up as a late night show host.
