Chapter 151 – “The Shadow Beneath the Sun”

Chapter 151 – “The Shadow Beneath the Sun”

The sun burned gently over the Land of Fire, its golden light spilling across the expansive fields that now stretched far and wide. Where once thick forests and mountains dominated the region, now lay countless rice paddies and tilled earth, dotted with farmers and irrigation channels, a testament to Konoha’s recent transformation. The scent of soil, water, and blooming summer flowers floated gently in the wind.

On a ridge overlooking the quiet prosperity, four cloaked figures strode silently.

Sasuke Uchiha led them, his black cloak rustling faintly with each step. The crimson Sharingan in his eye flickered, scanning the horizon beneath a hood that cast a shadow across his face. His features were calm, but his mind was turbulent.

Behind him walked Suigetsu Hōzuki, casual as ever with his hands behind his head.

“Man, is this really the Land of Fire? Looks like a bigger and better version of Land of Sound" (P.S. The original name of the Land of Sound was the Land of Rice Paddies.)

Karin adjusted her glasses, eyes narrowed as she focused her chakra.

“There’s so much life below. A ridiculous number of chakra signatures. It's like… the whole land is awake.”

Jūgo, quiet and serene, glanced out over the fields with a faint smile.

“It feels peaceful here. Balanced. Like the forest itself is resting.”

Sasuke didn’t answer. But his eyes lingered on the cultivated fields, the villages dotting the landscape, and the smoke rising from distant Stations. This was no longer the Hidden Leaf Village he had abandoned years ago.

......

There was no attempt to hide their arrival.

They walked plainly through the southern gate of Konoha. Guards at the entrance stiffened but did not attack. A moment later, a team of ANBU appeared, silent and professional. Their masks bore no aggression, only duty.

“Uchiha Sasuke,” one of them said, voice muffled behind a fox-shaped mask. “Lady Tsunade requests your presence at once. You and your companions will come with us.”

Suigetsu muttered, “For real? I thought there would be a Fight, since you betrayed Konoha.”

The group was escorted through Konoha’s streets. Sasuke silently took in the changes, stone-paved roads wider than before, rebuilt training grounds, and children running freely under hanging paper lanterns. The people of Konoha didn’t look frightened or anxious. They now looked strong, organized, and confident.

It unnerved him more than he admitted.

.....

The Hokage Tower stood tall and broad, its wooden frame reinforced with stone and chakra-sealed supports. As they entered, the wooden floors gave a faint creak, an old building kept alive through careful attention.

The ANBU led them into a large meeting room. The walls were lined with scrolls and maps. At the far end of the chamber, Tsunade sat behind a simple desk, her Hokage robes straight and formal. Beside her, half-shadowed under the angled sunlight, sat a man dressed in a dark black robe.

His head was lowered slightly, and his Black hair Tousled. His muscular arms were crossed in front of his chest, and his posture seemed utterly still, no movement, no twitch of muscle. The light cast a shadow over most of his face… except for his mouth and his eyes.

His silver eyes glowed faintly, unblinking. They were fixed on Sasuke.

The air in the room felt dense the moment they entered.

Sasuke took a step forward, but stopped as something invisible pressed down on him.

Karin gasped sharply.

“W-what is that…?”

Suigetsu clenched his teeth, eyes flicking toward the man in black.

“What the hell…?”

Jūgo’s shoulders tensed. His cursed chakra flickered slightly, unbidden.

Sasuke’s eyes narrowed. This wasn’t chakra. It wasn’t even killing intent, not in any way he understood. It was a presence shaped by battles no human should’ve survived, let alone fought. It pressed into his skin, sank into his bones, and made his instincts scream. This was the weight of someone who had Seen through hell and come out unchanged.

He fought against it, clenching his fists. The Sharingan spun to stabilize his mind. Blood trickled down from his lip where he bit himself, enough pain to focus.

Then the man spoke. His voice was calm, quiet… and cold.

“You dare come back to Konoha, and with unknown shinobi at your side?”

Sasuke’s lips tightened.

“I'm not here for konoha.”

The man didn’t reply. His silver eyes simply watched, as if measuring the depth of a well.

.....

Before Sasuke could said anything else, the door opened again. A familiar voice called out:

“Oi! Granny! I heard we got visitors~”

Naruto Uzumaki strode into the room with his usual unbothered confidence, hands behind his head. His jacket was open, And the Forehead Protector, on his forehead.

Behind him came Sakura Haruno. Her red combat vest hugged a leaner, more powerful frame and she was now taller than Naruto. Her eyes were sharp, and her steps steady. They both stopped mid-step as they saw who stood across the room.

Sasuke.

For a long beat, no one spoke.

Naruto’s smile dropped first.

“...Sasuke.”

Sakura’s eyes widened, shock, disbelief, and then fury.

“You-! You left us! You abandoned everything! We chased you… begged you not to go… and you still ran to that snake!”

Karin instinctively stepped closer to Sasuke, but Sakura stepped forward, fists clenched.

Naruto’s voice was low now.

“You don’t get to just walk back in here.”

Sasuke didn’t flinch.

“I didn’t come to come back. I heard my brother is here. Imprisoned. I came to see him.”

That brought silence to the room.

Tsunade’s fingers tapped the table.

“He is in our custody, yes. And no, you are not allowed to see him.”

Sasuke stepped forward.

“You don’t understand, he’s mine to deal with.”

Naruto’s voice cracked like thunder.

“No, Sasuke. He’s ours now. You lost the right to make those choices when you turned your back on everyone.”

Sakura took a sharp breath, and calm herself as she already let go of Sasuke, and back up a bit.

Sasuke looked between them. Something flickered in his eyes. Regret, perhaps. Or guilt quickly buried beneath pride.

“I left because I had to get stronger.”

Naruto stepped up, now face to face with him.

“Then why did you have to go to Orochimaru? Why not stay and get stronger with us?”

Sasuke said nothing.

....

Tsunade folded her hands together. Her expression was unreadable.

“Sasuke. If you’ve come to challenge this village… you’ll find more than just trouble waiting for you.”

The silver-eyed man beside her moved, just slightly. A tilt of the head, enough for the light to catch the sharp lines of his face.

He didn’t speak. But Sasuke felt it again, that stillness. threatening, and heavy.

Tsunade’s gaze shifted sideways.

“This is Hajime. He’s currently the strongest in Konoha, the one who captured Itachi. Whether or not you get to see him… that’s his decision.”

Sasuke turned toward Hajime fully. Their eyes met.

And for the first time in a long while… Sasuke hesitated. But only for a moment. Then his eyes hardened, he hadn’t forgotten his purpose. He still intended to avenge the Uchiha… by killing Itachi.

Hajime spoke, voice calm and firm:

“Stay or go. But remember, if you choose to stay, you’ll be part of Team Seven again. Otherwise I'll be the one to deal with you.”
