Staying angry at Rin was like trying to stay angry at a little gray kitten for doing kitten shit. Like most Mercurions, Rin was an unearthly work of art. Big blue-on-blue eyes, an open, expressive face, a bob of translucent glassy hair, up-tilted nose and a slim, girlish body. Crystal winglets swept back from her face where her ears would normally be. Unlike Suri and I, Rin was not a combat class. She was an Artificer, a mage who made magical items - like the steel clockwork automaton that scuttled around behind her knees.
“I’m so sorry!” Rin seemed oblivious to how close she was to being tripped up again. “But we only have until nine before the quest is reset for the day and-!”
“It’s fine, Rin.” Suri clapped Rin on the shoulder, causing her to stumble forward a step. “I was just taking the piss.”
“You were what!?” Rin’s silvery skin blushed a vibrant blue. “Thank you very much for coming outside so quickly, but I-I don’t need to know exactly what you and Hector-”
Suri groaned. “Taking the piss, not a piss. It’s a saying, kid. As I've told you the last fifty times I've had to explain this, it means I was making fun of you.”
I nodded. “Besides, Ignas has a firm ‘no golden showers in bed’ policy for guests. The butler gets really upset.”
“Ohhh my god.” Rin put her face in her hands, cheeks burning indigo. Suri and I both chuckled. We never got tired of playing this game.
