Anatomy studies

Less than a month ago, Ariel and I decided to hold each other accountable for weekly progress updates in studying "Anatomy for Sculptors, Understanding the Human Figure" by Sandis Kondrats and Uldis Zarins. Some of it piled up already so I thought it would be cool to share it with you. Maybe it's going to give some of you some inspiration πŸ™Œ

We've started with the important skeletal landmarks of the torso. As a supplement to the book I went to https://www.anatomystandard.com.

Then we went to the main differences between male and female body structures.

The book had some nice points about the composition of the pose and making sure it's legible.

After establishing how to make the poses fluid we went to blocking out the shapes and simplifying the main masses of the body.

The next assignment dealt with horizontal slicing through the body, but I went into a slightly different route that felt more important to me - wrapping around the shapes. This time not to waste too much time I've printed out a few of photo references and drew over them.

Next pages dealt with the main muscle masses of the frontal torso. This lesson was the last assignment to close the second week of the studies!

As much as knowing the names of muscles is not needed to understand anatomy, it is surely helpful when communicating and teaching. I don't consider myself a tutor nor a teacher but maybe in the future on some streams this knowledge will find itself handy. I won't be drilling the names into my head but I'm hoping to have some stuck in my head passively after all of the studies are done.
