Also can't believe no one mentioned Cher - "Believe" and "Walking on Memphis" are personal faves Vanessa Carlton's sappy, poppy songs are quite dated already compared to Gen Z's flavors for a romantic song, so a "A Thousand Miles", "White Houses", and "Ordinary Day" could fit. Maybe even throw in Taylor Swift's "Love Story" lol In that sense, pop-punk/rock romance songs like "You're Everywhere to Me" fit great. Going back a few generations older, "Alone" by Heart, "It Must Have Been Love" by Roxette, any Air Supply song, or the classic "Total Eclipse of the Heart" can get you pretty in the zone lol - maybe Marshall could have some remasters or cover versions lol "I Need a Hero!" from Shrek 2 goes way too hard for a cover of an 80's song for a parody movie Toto's "Africa" is also an 80s song Barry Manilow and the Carpenters' "Can't Smile Without You" is pretty catchy despite being a sad song. Small tidbit - Barry Manilow, the guy who sang it, was gay in real life! Like ABBA and Freddie Mercury, the Carpenters' songs are pretty timeless and really shaped our history of music, with covers and remixes still being pumped out occasionally and sometimes going viral You could throw "My Humps (Mozart remix)" by the Black-eyed Peas, and Bohemian WAPsody in the mix for shits and giggles! (Highly recommend to listen if you haven't) If you have any taste, "Starships" by Pachelbel Minaj hasn't aged for over 400 years Speaking of which, retro always makes a comeback lol. More contemporary takes like Gabrielle Aplin's "Sweet Nothing" and Dua Lipa songs would fit in nicely Loosely related to Daichi, Japanese songs are an absolute goldmine, whether its oldies or recent retro-sounding releases. Start with the Getbackers opening theme song and you'll have a field day since old anime songs are easier to find recommendations for! Laufey has also been really popularizing Jazz and shedding spotlight on it in the mainstream too! "From the Start" isn't really something you'd bang your head to, but if oldy, romantic and slightly poppy songs are what get Marshall in the zone, this is a perfect fit! To end, "A Whole New World" technically came out in the 90s!
