Hey! It's Something New

Hey Everyone! Gonna try my hand at doing updates at the start of every new month. The goal will be to summarizes what was created the previous month, give you updates on on-going projects/news, and provide some previews for what to expect going into the new month.

August 2018 was a big month for me. I officially quit my day job which I'd been working at for the past 11 years (since July of 2007!) to start working on PrintableHeroes full time. This was/is a huge life change for me and it is only possible because of the amazing support of all of you. Thank you. Thank you.

I'm still wrapping up some lingering freelance work and trying to figure out what all is possible now that I have the weight of day light hours to throw at PrintableHeroes, but I wanted to kick things off with the addition of these monthly updates, so lets dive in!

August 2018

Quick summary of what you might have missed in August 2018.

Looking Forward

Here are a few things that have been in the works.

Patreon News

Patreon is still having issues with payment declines, it appears to only be effecting about 3% of the PrintableHeroes community, and Patreon should have already sent out emails to those of you who might be effected.

To learn more about it you can check out the blog post from Tyler, Patreon's VP of Operations here.

If you are having any trouble here's what Patreon recommends:

If your bank suspects that the Patreon payment is fraudulent, you can call up your bank to confirm the payment is yours and genuine.
If you payment failed, you can follow these steps or switch to a different payment method.
You can reach out to the Patreon support team to get account specific help.

In Other News

Assorted news from around the Tabletop/RPG Community and recommendations/links to great creators I follow.

I'm sure there's more cool stuff I'm forgetting, but that's a good chunk of what's been going on lately.

Thanks as always to my incredible Patrons who make this all possible!

Okay, back to work drawing minis ;)

wow that dryad looks amazing cant wait and the sea reavers are awesome, just recently discovered your work designing a campaign with them now. looking forward to whats coming next! Love the updates as well if I miss something I can catch it at the start of the month:)

Robert Ketchell

Amazing work! So glad I am able to patron and support your work. I'm using your minis to run a campaign for me and my kids. I hope this isn't out of place, but can you PLEASE make a tree and shrub prop mini, I feel like they're the only essential thing I don't have in your sets to really set the scene! Thanks again and keep up the awesome artwork!

howzer

Thicker paper helps, get the thickest your printer supports. For the larger minis I also make a 'skeleton' out of the same paper to glue between the two layers to make it extra sturdy. Works fine!

Raaans

I like to print on thicker paper, I find roughly 68lb keeps everything pretty sturdy. For protection, I know a lot of people laminate them. One thing you can also try is the spray on protective coating that people use for protecting their traditional painted miniatures.

PrintableHeroes

So glad I found you :) I have a question for you or anyone else that can help - any tips on how to protect these and to keep them sturdy? I just printed my first few and I am thinking they might be a bit bendy and wobbly. Thank!

Daniel Robbin

Thanks for the shout-out! Your stuff rocks!! Wishing all the success you can handle and looking forward to many more of your creations :-)

Papierschnitzel

Yeah, I think I was a little brain dead by the time I got to that last section, along with JP there's several other creators I'd meant to mention and totally spaced. Learning experience, gonna start keeping an on going note pad of notes specifically for things to mention.

PrintableHeroes

No mention of JPsCreations? Whenever you put out new minis, I order a new set from him! Can't beat the quality, imo, though that hasn't stopped me from paying up through Tier 4 so I can have them all on my computer as well.

thelibraryghost

Oh thank [redacted], I need those cultists!

thelibraryghost

Wow I'm glad you're able to focus on this full-time, awesome! I love these kinds of updates and I'm looking forward to a lot of the upcoming content. Also can I say it's really cool you are promoting other creators? I already subscriber to Paper Forge for those few minis I don't find here, but I've got a few extra sources now too!

Anthony Aziz

I think it's a great idea to recap each month with an update like this. And congrats on getting to a point where you find it viable to do this full-time - it's certainly well earned, and I can't wait to see what comes out of it :D

whmchrish

Yup!

PrintableHeroes

Yup! Closing in on wrapping up the last bit of art for 'em. Gonna be pretty cool :D

PrintableHeroes

So awesome! Stoked on those dryads! Literally used a dryad last night for a game and plan to have more in this campaign so bring em on!

Andrew Wittenauer

you've absolutely pumped up my DMing game the last few months. love your work and will keep supporting it :)

Gili Abelha

LOOOOOOVE the dryad. MOAR PLEASE! :D

Jason Maynard

Congrats Marshall that's a huge move!! And really into this update format. Great way to pull everything together

Kevin Murphy

Congrats! Are you still working with the guys from Geek Tank Games as well? Your rock props went really well with the campground and grasslands :)

Anniek.

Awesome stuff! Will you be doing alk the cults of elemental evil eventually?

Jowan

I print the bases on the same photo paper as I print the minis and then glue the minis directly to the bases. The bases are included in the PDF, PNGs, and the Studio cut files.

PrintableHeroes

Excellent work as always. I like this type of post btw!

James Clark

Man, you and maphammer are my favorites on Patreon. A question, what do you use for bases? Im having trouble finding these.

ShirAhn

Congratulations on being able to live the dream and pursue your passion full time! Very excited for you!

Armando Lee

Congrats on following your passion and going full time making awesome art! I can't tell you how much your products have helped me make a more engaging DnD session. I just wrapped up a session today where I got to to plop down 20 zombies, 10 ghouls, 4 wizards and a Lich all at once as they assailed a player controlled fort. They had to surrender to the overwhelming magical siege after the gate was broken down and now they are slaves to a Lich lord. Gotta say without the mini's it would have been a less dramatic. Congrats again on the success!

HMS Kaiser

Hey! Saw your message come via email and I just wanted to congratulate you on being able to switch to PH full-time. You produce amazing artwork really make the lives of DMs easier (and more affordable!). Can’t wait to see what’s in store for the future 👍🏼

Brett Lee

This kind of update is the perfect way to keep us all hyped about your work. Congrats on your change of daily job, I wish you a whole life dedicated to work on what you most love, and greatful that is on paper miniatures!!

Ariel Sosa Visconti

I am a newcomer here, but in a matter of days already have hundreds of your wonderful minis printed, glued and ready to go! I came here by way of Maphammer whose maps I've been enjoying the heck out of for months, and I am so excited that you're able to do this full time! Your work is just splendid and exactly what I've been looking for, I cannot wait to pit players against your monsters. This update is super cool and I will be much looking forward to them. Thank you also for the shoutout to other creators, its helping me find other cool stuff! (Also, excited about that dryad!)

I love this update! Was really cool seeing the side-by-side of the old vs new. Cool seeing how you skills have developed.

Stephen Hart

Awesome update - and congrats on taking this big brave step into a new future.... it will be an amazing ride for you

Paul Ferris

I love this! And I’m now a Jared patreon too! This hobby leaves me broke, haha. Congratulations on quitting your day job to focus on paper minis. That is incredible and I’m happy to hear it. :)

Willow H. Wood

Oooooh I really need those sea reavers! Awesome!

Rachel Reams

Congrats on being able to quit your day job
