Seasonal Miniatures

*Updated at bottom with Note about Non-American Holidays/seasons.

I'm excited to announce that seasonally themed miniatures are coming to Printable Heroes!

What's a Seasonal Themed Miniature?

Seasonally themed miniatures are special miniatures tailored to fit certain holidays and/or seasonal tropes, for example Onion the Ogre would an April Fools Day themed miniature, or this Human Witch would be a fitting Halloween themed miniature, other examples: Pumpkin Golems, Awakened Snowmen, Krampus, etc.

Why?

Besides just being a fun way to celebrate the seasons, they provide me with an opportunity for me to create some of the more specific/unique/whacky miniatures I get requests for and they can give DM's more resources for running seasonally themed adventures/encounters.

What's so Special About Them?

They're will be exclusively available only during a limited time around the holiday/season they're celebrating. I want these to be something we can look forward to and get excited about, both to see what new minis are added and unlocking the existing ones from previous years so they continue to feel special and fun.

They'll be made available just like regular minis, with free versions and all the bells and whistles of the additional tiers, they'll just disappear after the holiday/season and won't be available until the holiday rolls around again.

You Mentioned, "Requests" is this an Opportunity for us to Request Miniature Designs?

Yes! (as long as they're appropriate/fitting for the season) I want this to be an opportunity for the PrintableHeroes patrons to get involved both with suggesting ideas and for voting on what ultimately gets made into a miniature.

Awesome! Where can I Make My Suggestions?

I'm glad you asked! The thread for making your Halloween 2018 Suggestions is kicked off and ready for your ideas here! Please note you must be a Patron (at any tier) to be able to suggest / vote.

Suggestions will be open for a week (ending Midnight on the 21st PST), then I will select my favorites and create a Voting thread that will go live on Monday the 24th.

I'll announce similar Suggestion & Voting threads prior to upcoming holidays/seasonal events so keep your eyes out for 'em!

Additional Notes

I want these to feel like extra/bonus minis and I never want it to feel like I'm locking a "core" miniature behind the seasonal limited availability. Anything from the Monster Manual (like an Ogre for example) would always be available year around, but something like a Pumpkin Ogre or Onion the ogre would be fair game for seasonal miniature.

This is a new feature, so there are bound to be a few bumps and please feel free to toss me any ideas/suggestions you might have. My main goal for this is to provide a fun space for the community to get involved and for me to commit to making some of the more specific/whacky mini ideas that I otherwise probably won't do.

Thanks Everyone!

Special Note for Non-American Holidays / Seasons

I intend to do this for major American Holidays/Season that I'm aware of, but I know there are all kinds of awesome holidays/seasonal traditions from around the world that I am not aware of so if you know of something that would be fun/cool please toss me a link to where I can read up on it and see if it would be a good fit, thanks! :D

A Christmas treant sounds neat, too. What about the ginger bread golem?

Christopher Lee

I'll admit I was thinking of frost dwarves; I play SW Hellfrost too.

John Behan

Oooh, like frost dwarfs! Azers are rare enough, but I've NEVER seen minis for frost dwarfs (probably because they only exist on one Abyssal layer...).

Christmas bauble-beholder and animated Tannenbaum Wrapped gift mimic and Gelatinous cube with a bow St Patrick's Day Gnomes in leprechaun costumes (for one shot games where you chase the snake cultists out of Ireland) Holi: Rakshasa in traditional Indian dress and turban, with multicoloured powder-cloud spell effects. Wassailing Goblins with morris-dancer bells and mugs of cider, or banging pots and pans. On the more general seasonal front, any generic winter and desert re-skins of any minis would surely be popular.

door mimic with a wreath

Lopez999x

Ice goblins armed with sharpened spiral red-striped pointy j-shaped sticks.

Jason N.

Ooh dia de los muertos skeletons and flaming should would be so cool and colorful!

Yule Giants. Awakened Tannenbaum, Portly bearded half elf in a red suit (since elves = no beards). Undead reindeer/red elk.

Jason N.

Walpurgisnacht would be another good opportunity for witch variations: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walpurgis_Night

Carrie Brady

Obligatory Krampus.

Jason N.

Dia de Los Muertos skeletons. Skeletons aren't always the bad guys!

Jason N.

Yeah, I'd like to eventually do an official Strahd mini, if/when I do i'll release it via the DM's Guild so I can stay within the legal bounds of WotC content.

PrintableHeroes

Absolutely! Thank you for calling this to my attention, I've edited the original post to let people know to share what they think would be great holidays/seasonal traditions to draw from.

PrintableHeroes

What about Baba Yaga and her chicken-legged hut? Or maybe she lives inside a giant Jack-O'-Lantern with chicken legs?

A boxing day mimic would be really fun

P.R. Scholtz

He already has a vampire miniature that is basically Strahd von Zarovich, you can look for them in the catalog, but here's the direct link https://www.patreon.com/posts/vampire-zombies-15330602.

Heaven Builder

Great idea, I completely second this as well!

Heaven Builder

I know this would probably count as proprietory content from WotC but what about Strahd von Zarovich? Seems fitting for the Halloween season.

This is such a great idea. I only have one question: would you consider non-american holidays for this project? It's just because some patreons of yours aren't familiar with every american holiday, such as thanks giving or haloween. We might know them because of TV, but I'd like to suggest you to consider the chinese new year, the olympic games, the "dia de los muertos" (also october 31st, in Mexico, and in november in other southamerican countries) or even carnival (like rio's carnival). Just asking :)

Ariel Sosa Visconti

I. Love. This. You are so awesome. Thank you.

Carrie Brady

Love it. A fiendish dire turkey of legend.

Daryl

Personally would love to see a Dire Turkey
