Added 2022-02-21 03:30:58 +0000 UTCThis mod unlocks the color sliders currently locked for makeup and skin for use with hair, clothes, and accessories.
Have a look here!
How does this work?
EA added a new texture resource that allows those textures to be recolorable. By unlocking the sliders for other categories, once the textures are converted you can adjust their colors like you would makeup.
After downloading the UI file, you can pick and choose which categories and packs you want to download from the Google Drive link on the main download page, like just Hair from Cottage Living, for example.
Will I be able to recolor separate parts of the clothes/hair like The Sims 3?
No. You can only change the entire texture.
Will CC work?
Only CC that have been converted to LRLE will work, and most/all creators who do this will say the item is color sliders compatible on the download page.
You can also do this yourself on hair with Sims4Studio's batcher, called "Update Hairs for Color Slider Compatibility". There is currently no batcher for clothes, etc. though, but S4S may add others in a future update. We hope to one day have our own program for batching for further customizing, but we're not sure when.
Are there any conflicts?
Any EA CAS overrides that include the textures and KingZace's More Clubs Per Sim.
How does the hair work?
Hair sliders work well, they just have a few quirks to be aware of:
โข By unlocking the sliders there are now two swatch areas. The one above the hairs is the one you are used to and the one that you should be using when choosing your original swatch. The second swatch area now appears on the hairs themselves, like how clothes work. The second swatch area only works for custom swatches.
โข If you adjust the sliders of one swatch then go to another swatch, the slider colors will stay but lighten or darken depending on the swatch you choose. To break this connection just choose a different hair and then go back, it will revert to the original colors.
โข Adjusting the sliders of the hair does not affect the beards or eyebrows (but the original swatches still affect them). Beards are unlocked and can be adjusted manually to match; eyebrows are not unlocked yet.
Do the color sliders have some oddities?
For most clothes, no, most of them behave exactly as you'd expect. On clothes that are mostly white though, Increasing the saturation to the max will cause strange colors to appear.
Opacity on clothes will cause the sim skin to show on the clothes mesh, which may not be what you want. It's handy for beards though.
Are pet clothes recolorable?
No, we tried investigating this but the system does not work on pets for some reason.
What categories can be recolored?
The following categories have been enabled after testing:
- Hats
- Hair, Facial Hair, Body Hair, Eyebrows
- Tops, Bottoms, Full Body
- Shoes, Socks, Tights
- Nails, Gloves, Rings
- Earrings & Piercings
- Necklaces
- Glasses
- Tattoos
- Medical Wearables
- Scars & Acne (no EA textures due to settings in their files making them not work)
- Skin Details (no EA textures due to settings in their files making them not work)
Is this on CurseForge?
Not yet due to limitations in their app, and we are unsure yet if the number and size of files will be allowed as they do not allow direct download links in the mod descriptions.
Huge thanks to CmarNYC and tau534 for figuring out the LRLE file format!
Thanks to MizoreYukii for providing extremely valuable support.
Thanks to Aristonecc for letting us know hats were patched at some point, and for figuring out how to enable eyebrows!
Thanks to all the pre-release testers I sent the mod to for feedback!
