Here you can ask me things you're wondering about for our games or company and they'll be answered at the end of the month an an audio recording (with a text transcript too). Just make sure the questions long follow the guidelines!
The transcript of the question answers will be public! We'll automatically remove questions that are about things only revealed to the Patreon, like Project W stuff. If you don't want your question shared with everybody, you can leave a note in your comment to say so.
The thread will close after the 19th.
Guidelines:
1. Please don't reply to other people's questions even if you know the answer. The fun of joining a Q&A is that the developer can give a direct response to you and that everyone else also gets to hear/see the answer in the end of the month post. Having another player resolve the question in the comments right here might not be what the asker was hoping for. This thread is more about having a good time rather than looking for an immediate response to an important question. And if you do have a question you want to hear about right away, it's best to ask in some other thread or to message me directly.
2. I'm afraid questions about what scenes/choices/art assets Our Life: Now & Forever will include aren't answerable right now. Most of the details are decided as the game is created and currently I'm only writing Step 1. I do know some things coming later, but only a small fraction of the whole game.
3. The questions can't be about more serious/potentially upsetting topics because I don't want those listening to suddenly be surprised with something they might not have been prepared for/want to be confronted with.
4. Please keep the questions here to things that wouldn't be really hard to tackle in an off-the-cuff, spoken out loud kind of Q&A, aha. Questions about a half dozen characters or wanting an entire theoretical situation described aren't super doable in this situation.

Hey, I don't think this questions works for the Q&A. I can't talk about things in the beta and I can't take requests for more content here. I'm sorry. However, if you're friends/crush, the game does default to MC liking the character. Sometimes there's changes if you're a rude MC, but it's not possible to be friends/be a crush while always having a negative attitude towards them. I also do think there are ways to be disliking towards Tamarack, especially throughout the entire beta. But I can check in the prologue to see if it doesn't seem to be even.

I could totally see MC continuously calling up Jeremy and him being too much of a pushover to not tolerate them eventually. Especially with Pran getting nicer with time and stuff.

In Our Life 1 during the scene where we make sandwiches with Cove, WHY do we have SO MUCH BREAD in our house?? Do Moms 1 and 2 just purchase ridiculous amounts of bread? I know we at least have at least two types because Cove always uses a specific kind of bread.

How would the main OL leads react to MC giving more love/attention to their pet than them, given them were in a relationship? Not seriously, of course. But in the way of Jude loving his car more than Grant-Grant. 2. Similar to the question last month about gifting Baxter a leaf, what if you'd gifted Ren a leaf at the time and said it was because she was important to you? How would this change between Step 1 and 2? 3. Sorry if this has been asked before, but does Pamela have a nationality/ethnicity? I feel like I remember her being white somewhere, but I can't find it on the FAQ.

I have a few questions this month, too. They are more general this time (again, sorry if the questions aren't well formulated, English isn't my first language) (and also please don't release my questions to the public) 1. How will Liz and Lee be as aunties for the MC's children? 2. Which one of the OL1's leads is more likely to faint while their partner is giving birth? 3. How could the OL's boys act while their partner is in labor? Would they be freaking out? Would they be already prepared weeks in advance? 4. How could Cove deal with having a child who has his step 1's personality? You know, a kid who was direct, blunt, and sometimes rude, or one who pushed him away like he did with his dad in the past? 5. This might be extremely specific, but if in step 2, Qiu and Tamarack individually, the MC is just neighbors with them, and they are kind of rude to them constantly. Then their step 3 selves came to them like from the future and told them, "You'll be dating that person in four years." How will they react? 6. I know Cove loves the idea of having a house on the beach, but what about living in a boat? Or like a yacht? 7. How will Cliff and Kyra be as grandparents? 8. I asked before for step 1, for Tamarack and Autumn. But which characters will they choose while playing Mario Kart on the Wii this time in step 2? Are they the same or have they changed?

It’s my second Q&A session and you know what time it is, Cove questions time! I would love to ask Qiu-related ones but I’m sure that since the game isn’t quite finished yet, it’ll be hard to answer. Anyway, thanks again and here are the questions related to our ocean-boy: 1.) If their kid was being disrespectful to the MC (like maybe snapping or just said mean things by accident), would Cove be the type to defend his spouse and immediately be mad at the child? Or will he be the type to slowly erase himself from the scene and be like, “Nope. You and your other parent’s problems”. This is honestly funny since my dad is somewhat both but mostly the first one since he loves my mom so much, haha. I’m also curious how Baxter would go on about this too, if possible. :D 2.) If the MC goes to school abroad (somewhere far like Southeast Asia), would Cove be willing to visit or also apply in becoming an International student or would he just prefer to study or stay where he’s at since… it is a big change. 3.) Kind of connected to the first one but the scenario is that the MC would love to move there. Maybe their biological parents or origins are from there— or their job is based there, would Cove be willing to follow them in permanently or living there for years if they’re married? Let’s say the Philippines (ty so much for the representation and for our wonderful Liz for this one!) since the PH is known to be the center of ocean biodiversity and surely and maybe… Cove with a Marine Biology degree could work wonders there in research and stuff. I wanted to ask, how good at cooking are Tam and Qiu? It seems like Tamarack can be a bit reckless about adding ingredients if you choose to bake with her in step 1. Will this be something she gets better at as she becomes a more careful person? And would Qiu enjoy learning Chinese recipes as a way to feel connected to their culture?

OLNF is a game that heals my inner child better than anything I ever played, and I'm grateful to you for making it! A special thank you to GB Person for answering these questions and to David for making the transcriptions — those were very helpful! It's my first time asking questions, so I apologize if what I ask has already been answered or can't be answered at all! There is a lot of questions, sorry! Feel free to skip them if they're too much of a spoiler! 1. Will we see Ren more or less than in step 1? I understand that it's a WIP, but maybe you can give us a rough idea? It's tied to my other questions, so I wanted to ask that first. 2. Will we see more of her interactions with Vianca? I can't explain why, but that moment when she ignores Ren really stuck with me, and I want to know more of their dynamic. I realize that because of Vianca's choice in people, they really don't have much room for interactions, but still, is there anything you've planned? (I will be satisfied with just a 'yes' or 'no' answer, if you can't spoil anything!) 3. If Ren and MC are friends, will she come out to us? Somewhere near the end of step 2, maybe? Or is it an event that happens strictly off-screen, and we can only see the impact of it in step 3 (as in, Ren being open with her gender)? And will Ren feel more comfortable opening up to an MC who's also an MTF? How does she even feel about it if the MC came out at the start of step 2? 4. From what I understand, Renee seems to like games, and 2014 is the year when FNAF first came out, in autumn even. Does she play it? Does she like it? I just imagine her and one of my MCs obsessing over lore clues and driving people insane with their ramblings. I hope this can be true, even if not directly in a game. 5. This question is about the MCS room in step 2. If we choose orchestra, we'll need an instrument. I assume we can just play and practice at school, but will there be any decorations for MC's room that are tied to that (aka, can we choose MC to have their instrument in their room)? I assume not, because I can't see a piano fitting in there, but if that's the case, will the MC only ever play/practice at school? 6. In step 1 in 'fancy fun,' Tamarack reacts if you wear jewelry to her tea party (earrings, to be precise). I didn't check it with other moments yet, but do characters (mainly the leads) react to our outfits often? Are there any other moments where you can find that kind of interaction? Does it apply to clothes and hair length, or is it only accessories? I have a thing planned for my MC based on those formalwear sprites, so I wanted to know how far I can go with these things. 7. It's a silly one, but what Hogwarts houses is everyone in? I'm talking about Qiu, Tam, Serenity, Vianca, Ren, Baxter, etc.—everyone you can think of, basically! I personally think Tamarack is a Gryffindor and Qiu is a Hufflepuff, but I wanted to know what you think! 8. I was revisiting character sprites and had a very important question about Yusuf in step 3. He's wearing Opal's earrings, isn't he? I'm not imagining this, right? 9. One more sprite question. There seems to be a step 1 sprite for Mr. Murray, but we don't see him during that step. The post seems old-ish, so I assume you decided against it? 10. Another question I have is about Qiu's earrings. You said that these are little leaves, if I remember right. Did Qiu choose those because their mom wears leaf earrings? 11. In one of my replays with my favorite MC, I tried putting Qiu in praising mode and Tam in teasing mode (crush and BFF, so it made more sense), and I love how the dynamics changed! I wanted to know if default options have more lines or if they are equal. I want my main MC to get the best story, so I'd prefer using the options with more content. And also, do you personally, as a writer of these characters, prefer the default settings? I'm just curious. 12. If the MC is neighbors with Qiu in steps 1 and 2, they seem to be rude to them if you choose the same extra classes. Is this how all people not in their inner circle feel, or is it because my MC just happens to also be rude to Qiu in step 1? 13. Last question, I promise! In the prologue of step 1, if the MC scolds him on not paying attention in class, Qiu says that he likes school-y kids. Is he being nice, or does Qiu genuinely like nerds? This is all I have for now. I know that OL was always going to have an XOD cameo, since its inception; is that why Shiloh was chosen? To link the two games together by having his old friend be the new MC's sister? If Step one Tamarack and Qui could have picked any of the High school clubs/extracurriculars, which would they choose? 3. I know they're not main characters, but do you think we'll ever see Serenity address how Vianca treats non-binary people? It just seems pretty dismissive of their identity that Vianca see's her as 'enough of a girl' to treat them with politeness. But she treats other people who use they/them pronouns poorly. Like she's grouping Serenity together with the 'girls' as appoposed to the 'non-binary kids'.

I've noticed once or twice before when you've referred to a moment having a 'draft' done vs. having a full script done, and it's made me curious about your drafting process. When starting to write a new moment, obviously you have to come up with the basic idea first, but then do you do like, a basic outline of the moment first before going in to flesh it out? If so, could you share what you usually focus on in a first pass, and what that process looks like, like what details you tend to focus on in an outline/first draft and what you leave to fleshout after you have the outline done? 2025-09-07 03:07:20 +0000 UTChi kab, hi david, and hello to the rest of the gb patch team !! it's been a while since i've been a part of these Q&As, so it's nice to be back and able to ask a few questions !!! feel free to skip some if you like. <33 1. so, in the first game, there are a couple lines of narration in baxter's DLC that point to him having dimples (i can't remember them exactly but if i remember correctly, there's a line during the mountains moment and another right after the confession at jude and scott's wedding). they seem pretty cut and dry, but i just want explicit confirmation from you, kab just to make sure lol. does baxter actually canonically have dimples? because if he does, that's adorable. 2. here's a cute question! we all know how cove reacts when MC walks down the aisle because we see it during the wedding DLC, but how would derek and baxter react to MC walking down the aisle at their wedding? 3. this has been on my mind for a while, but if i may ask, what's xavier's ethnicity? they have an accent, and if i remember correctly, the initial casting call asked for a VA with a latin american accent. are they latin american, or something else? 4. this is a weird one, but how big is baxter's appetite? we know cove can eat a lot (me too lol), but throughout his dlc, we don't see him eat a lot in step 3 or 4. he only gets a black coffee at the start of his epilogue, he doesn't finish his ice cream sandwich while he and mc are outside of jude and scott's house, and even though he does eat a veggie burger at the bowling alley, it still doesn't seem like he eats a lot and his appetite seems pretty small to me! like it seems like cove has the biggest appetite, derek's somewhere in the middle, while baxter has the smallest. does baxter not eat too much because he's always so busy or am i just assuming this because we never see him eat that much in game? also, if you can answer this, what do you think baxter's daily eating habits are like? 5. i saw in a previous q&a (from 2022 iirc) that baxter's family got most of their money from generational wealth. another silly question, sorry lol, but by that did you mean like old money? i'm just curious because there's a difference between regular inherited wealth and like, people who've been rich for generations lmao that kinda stuff intrigues me! 6. can you tell us about kyra's background? like we know she was born in california, but what was her childhood like and you know, what were the specifics of her high school years (besides all her shenanigans with cliff lol)? i love her so much and i wanna know everything about her! 6. and one last question !! there's multiple moments in baxter's DLC that show him expressing annoyance/frustration or getting as close to getting as genuinely angry as possible (i.e. the talk in MC's kitchen after the drinks moment in his step 3, the specific moment in xavier's bakery during his epilogue, the talk he and MC have about his parents at the bar/cafe also during his epilogue), but he never gets truly pissed off. do you have an idea of what he'd be like if he ever got really angry? he was pretty scary/unsettling or shocking (for lack of a better term lol) in those aforementioned scenes, so i'm just wondering if that energy is amplified if he actually gets genuinely 100% pissed off lmao. anyways, that's all from me !! hope you guys have a pleasant september (or had since the Q&As come out at the end of the month lol), and i hope development on OLNF continues to go smoothly !!! <33

My first question here and I hope it hasn’t been asked before, but I’ve noticed that Qiu seems to be struggling academically (or at least perceives that they are?) in Step 2. I have two questions that follow from that: 1: How does Tamarack feel she’s doing academically, and does that play into the things she struggles with in Step 2 one way or another? 2: I’m aware it might be too early to say for sure, but since the game seems to keep track of how your MC does in school, would an academically inclined MC interact with the Envy feature? Could an MC who does well potentially provide help to their friends? Thanks for considering my questions, and I hope you have an awesome and productive September! Im sure the amount ive asked is a lot so feel free to skip some if you want/need! Will we be able to have our mcs be trans without coming out? I have a few characters in mind who don't realize until later (in both a neutral and dysphoric way) or not necessarily ready to come out yet and was wondering if that would come up when we go over how the Mc views themselves. If a Li was jealous before getting into a relationship will they be more possessive/clingy (in a healthy way) towards the Mc? Or on the opposite if they were envious and no longer were would they make a sort of point to be very happy for them? Will we get certain flavor text if we say we're from china/germany from the Lins and Baumans respectively? Of if we say we speak chinese/German? If the Mc is nonverbal/semiverbal will sign language be something we can say we use to convey things? I'm pretty sure that's what the letter spelling in one of the dlc moments was and in the step 1 epilogue when we can say that'd be hard to convey with hands was pointing to. How would the leads feel about more humorous nicknames? For example calling Qiu Spring or tamarack Maple/other tree names? Or even using angel princess as an actual nickname? Does Qiu prefer more traditional ballet or contemporary? Do they prefer to do the forms that are meant to show off strength or the ones that are meant to show off grace? If the Mc wanted to do a pas de duex with qiu would they be willing to do that as long as it wasn't for an actual audience/competition? Does Tamarack like to be lifted/carried? Both as a child and later with someone she's crushing on/dating? Will we be able to say we're dating Renee as a more background plot even though we very likely won't be able to get a dlc focusing on her? Will polyamoury be something we can say happened off screen in step four or will it be something we have to play out? And if we're dating one of the leads in step three and have developed a crush on the other is that something we'd be able to talk about with our partner? If our mc had an interest in the horror genre would opal let them watch horror movies during the step 1 time period (very selectively)? are there any stims that Qiu does/likes? I love the work that the entire gb team does and I hope all of you take plenty of breaks as you need it!

2025-09-06 05:26:18 +0000 UTCIf there's a change of heart when it comes to how the MC feels about the woods/the great outdoors on their own in Step 1 to how it may be in Step 2 (both in the Prologue section of those Steps), would we be able to say that during time between Steps that either Ren had helped the MC to change their mind about the woods (as Ren and Qiu started to drift, and the MC may be possibly considered Ren's best friend by the Student Body when the two meet for the first time in the Step 2 school year) or maybe the Murrays if the MC (alongside Qiu and/or Opal) was invited to go hiking with Ren and family? On the other hand, if the MC loved the woods in Step 1 and then ends up fearing them in Step 2 or the concept of traipsing through the woods became icky by that time, maybe they had a really bad incident in the meantime instead. In which case, the Camping moment may be a great opportunity for Ren to help the MC to like the woods/do outdoor activities again.

I love that Derek participated in the bouquet toss in the Wedding DLC!! Would he want to throw a bouquet at his own wedding? Would Jorge or Nicolas participate? 3.) Is there anything Derek would definitely want for his wedding in terms of events/decor/venue/food/music/etc.?

So in Step 2, do Tam and/or Qiu know if MC has a crush on them? Step One gives you the chance to tell them in a way but as teens do they simply play that off as they were kids or are they aware of our crush? 2. I have to know for the true high school experience, do we get to punch someone at all? 3. In the beginning of Step 2 when we go to meet Tam, Granny mentions how kind we are and that there are some true “rabblerousers” out there, are they referring to qiu? or anyone specific? (wanted to see if anyone is actually mean to tam at school) 4. Are we going to be able to be mean to Tam’s parents when we see them? I’m assuming yes due to us getting to choose how we felt about them but I was just wondering. 5. Guessing it would be a lot more writing, are we simply going to have dialogue options relating to the possible two clubs/teams we choose? Or will we get to actually see any of them? Like astronomy club?? ✨

For my question, we know in step two that Qiu has withdrawn from a lot of people in their life, even withdrawing from Ren. So I'm wondering if you are friends/crushes with Qiu are you the person they're closest to in step 2? And if so, do they have any other people they would consider friends, or is the MC all they have for that time in their life?(Not counting people like their parents of course, I mostly mean people Qiu has chosen themselves)

This is something I have wondered for months at this point but I keep missing the Q&A periods, and I'm horrible about reading through them to see if it's been answered previously, but I'm curious if the OL1 gang have canon heights? I know Cove is stated to be very tall, and there's a reference to Derek and Jorge being 'large adult men' in Derek's Step 4 DLC, but other than that the only direct reference I can recall to a character's height is saying that Noelani is tall for an adult woman in the Step 2 prologue. I guess I'm just wondering if you've given them distinct heights, or if it's just vibes based on who's taller than who? I guess the specific characters I'm curious about are Cove, Derek, and Baxter obviously, but also the moms, Liz, Miranda, Terry, Lee, Cliff, Kyra, Jorge, and Nico?

2025-09-05 20:11:28 +0000 UTCHi!! Been a fan of this game since just the step 1 prologue was barely implemented and it's my first time participating in one of these threads. I don't know if this counts as a violation of rule #2 but feel free to skip it if so, or even if I sound rude accidentally! My biggest question is if the step 1 prologue and step 1 in general will have more opportunities to be "rude" to Tamarack? When it comes to Qiu, the MC can both be rude to and/or have a crush on him with plenty of rude or indifferent options for him, but those seem nonexistent for Tammy. One instance is MC can display great reluctance and even distaste for walking with Tamarack to school on the first day, but when interacting with her the only non-friendly option is to look away shyly and every other option is more or less expressing openness to being with her. Immersion is broken even more if you have a crush because in the scene right before you can outright wish Tamarack isn't coming with you and Qiu, but the very next scene the flavor text is along the lines of "You try to look serious. You'd hate for Tamarack to walk alone." This continues in every instance of having a crush (or even a friend I've noticed) where, unlike with Qiu, the MC is written to be all smiles and overjoyed by her presence no matter their personality. Being giddy about sharing a seat with her, being jittery with anticipation in the Step Fancy Fun when Tamarack is back from her errand, and more instances where the MC is hardlocked at least in flavor text into having only positive opinions on her. There's also a general lack of options to be mean to her compared to Qiu. She's a sweetheart, but it does feel like she gets coddled in game compared to Qiu and it'd be nice if MCs can have the same surly or even dislike towards her (especially when having a crush in a salty "I don't like you I really don't!" way). Sorry for this long-winded rant that may not even be appropriate for this thread 😅

Do any of the characters in OL2 have any hidden talents? Do any of the characters have goals that they want to accomplish in Step 2? For example, getting good grades, joining clubs, etc.

I’ve only recently got the patreon so sorry if some of these have already been answered, or if they can’t be answered feel free to skip. 1- Qiu says their gonna skip the 1st day of school but still ends up going even if the mc doesn’t prompt them too, do they ever actually skip school or classes and will there ever be a time mc can skip with them? 2- I really love Renee and saw somewhere that by step 2 she already knew she was trans not sure if that’s true though, but if it is, why didn’t she come out in step 2 3- Another about Renee, at about what point did she come out? A little before step 3 starts or somewhere in the middle? 4- We know Qiu doesn’t like to be called terms like partner, but how would they feel if they had a non binary partner that did like being called partner or significant other? Would they still rather not call them that because it’s too formal? Love the games and thanks a bunch!

With how hectic things are in the prologue for step 2, will the trio (or duo) find a seperate place to eat for lunch? They might not be allowed to leave the cafeteria but I remember in my high school, some teachers would let students hang out in their classroom for the lunch period (and there was a help center for students who needed extra help on class material/had to retake or finish an assignment during lunch)

While I have always tried to be open and understanding of others sexuality and gender preferences, I never really put much thought into my own. OL1/2 along with similar games have helped me understand more about myself and my preferences. My question is about Qiu's preferences. In the opening for Stage 2 you are asked whether or not you still call them Autumn. I never knew what to say because there wasn't an option to use their preference. The narrator mentioned Qiu stopped helping people pronounce/spell their name, and that if they knew they knew and it factored into their friendship. That makes me think Qiu prefers to be called their actual name because it is a part of their identity. So does Qiu have a preference?

As for ol1, we see Cove at different stages and always have an option to either tell him that his dad paid us to be his friend until the wedding where his dad announces it. Now hypothetically speaking if that never happened, how would Cove react to being told a few years after their marriage?

None of them need to be difficult in general, but did you have an trouble beginning to write for a certain character over the others? 2. Do you have a way you get yourself past a writers block or mental fuzz when you sit down to script write? 3. While understanding each step brings about different ages and more improved personalities, do you have a favorite step to write for?
