Here you can ask me things you're wondering about for our games or company and they'll be answered at the end of the month an an audio recording (with a text transcript too). Just make sure the questions long follow the guidelines!
The thread will close after January 19th.
Guidelines:
1. Please don't reply to other people's questions even if you know the answer. The fun of joining a Q&A is that the developer can give a direct response to you and that everyone else also gets to hear/see the answer in the end of the month post. Having another player resolve the question in the comments right here might not be what the asker was hoping for. This thread is more about having a good time rather than looking for an immediate response to an important question. And if you do have a question you want to hear about right away, it's best to ask in some other thread or to message me directly.
2. I'm afraid questions about what scenes/choices/art assets Our Life: Now & Forever will include aren't answerable right now. Most of the details are decided as the game is created and currently I'm only writing Step 1. I do know some things coming later, but only a small fraction of the whole game.
3. The questions can't be about more serious/potentially upsetting topics because I don't want those listening to suddenly be surprised with something they might not have been prepared for/want to be confronted with.
4. Please keep the questions here to things that wouldn't be really hard to tackle in an off-the-cuff, spoken out loud kind of Q&A, aha. Questions about a half dozen characters or wanting an entire theoretical situation described aren't super doable in this situation.
You can always send me questions outside of the audio Q&A if they wouldn't work here!

I was just curious if you had any advice for people who'd like to build their own visual novel but don't really have much experience? How did GB Patch form, and were there any hiccups or tricks that, looking back, made things harder or easier when you were starting out? Also, do you have any songs that make you think of Qiu, Tamarack, Cove, or any of the other characters? Thank you and Happy New Year! :)

But in step 1 Ghost, if you go out in the street to investigate the noise and run into Cove he tells you that he saw you from his window and wouldn't tell you exactly why he was up. I was wondering if we can get some insight on what exactly he was doing, and also if he only put on his sweater right after he saw you in the middle of the street or was he already wearing it because it was night time?

What do you consider to be the most effective method to organize your project ideas and give them structure? What would you recommend to someone who has difficulty structuring the story or basis of a project? 2. Will we see more love rivalries apart from the one that may exist between Qiu and Tamarack if they are jealous? For example, the MC and a side character competing for the attention of an LI, or one of the LI's showing discontent or jealousy that a side character is showing particular interest in the MC.

Will there be more options in the characterization menu?? Like more accessories or hair options?? 5. Would there ever be a beach moment?? Thank you for entertaining us as usual! OL2: your answers to my questions about Baxter last month made me wonder about something related to OL2. Would Opal "prefer" the MC getting together with either one of Tamarack or Qiu? I assume she'll be just as supportive either way, but she may have a conscious or even unvoluntary preference towards either for whatever reason. And does that change depending on the Step? Project W: is the word "lumulle" based on French? I'm a native French speaker and it sounds like it. And if yes, is it pronounced as it would be in French? I'm naturally reading it like that obviously, but it may be entirely different too. Also, is the name in any way related to "limules" (horseshoe crabs)?

Is the family setting something that where if you pick it the friendship is going to start to be described in nuclear terms the way it is in Beginning and Always where it says "Cove was your brother in all but the legal sense" (I can't recall the exact quote) or is it going to be more found family than literal family where its like yes a friend can also be family without having to confirm to some preset nuclear family role?

I know the crush is always mutual and that Qiu/Tam are always aware they're crushing on MC, but do the Lls always know it's mutual? Or can Tam/Qiu think that MC is not interested in them if I choose not to know if it's mutual? I hope that makes sense.

Would he get them to experience his hometown, Golden Grove, and introduce them to his childhood friends like Qiu and Renee?

Hanging out in MC's room or going for an aimless walk in the neighborhood, etc.? 2. As kids, Baxter and Ren had their own friendship, right? Did they commiserate together over things changing that fall of OLNF Step 1? 3. How often would Ren chastise Baxter for bothering Qiu, like if everyone fights in Mixed Up? Was that a part of their overall dynamic or was that an extraordinarily bad moment for the club? 4. Are there any more details you could share about Jude and Scott's talk with Baxter about being 'into' MC in Baxter's Step 4, love route (and with Jude and Scott relatively close to MC)? Did they big-brother him?

As we're heading into the fun/angsty Step of Teenage years; do you currently have an idea of how mean/cold/hostile/etc you can be in this Step? I understand it won't go too far, but since others and I are choosing to go from friendship to Neighbour status, it'd make for an interesting arc to see how far it can go before some kind of explosive development happens. 2. A more fun one; if you had all the time/funding/system knowledge, could you see yourself making a spiritual/off-shoot game to the OL series that focuses on going from a Young Adult to Twilight Years? (I mainly say this, because Mr. Baumann is giving me those cool grandpa vibes to the point my MC aspires to be like him.) Thank you for your hard work, time, and for helping me to explore some contemporary fiction of my own. :D

SJDSMJDSM (most of them are baxter btw lol) 1. so, just how did baxter get into the boys club? if that's a spoiler feel free to skip but like, just how did qiu introduce baxter to renee? like i don't think we've ever found out the specifics of that at all sdjfsdmfjdm 2. i noticed that in ol2 and in step 2 of ol1, baxter's hair is a lot longer than it is in step 3 and 4 of the latter. why did he cut it sdjfmdsfj like that detail is so peculiar to me idk why! 3. this has been bothering me ever since i bought his dlc, but HOW and WHY did baxter even get into metal/punk? like how did he even gravitate towards those genres bc i looked at him and went "there's no way he's actually into this" JBJSMDJSD also do you have any idea of what his favorite bands would be i'm so curious 4. now, what would it be like if he (baxter) started dating/got married to someone from a similarly wealthy family like his own? and what if he had a partner who ALSO had issues with their parent/parents? 5. why does baxter kiss the mc on the back of the hand, and did y'all choose that for a specific reason? this might be a silly question but i love that little part of his character and i swear when i saw that for the first time i almost melted WEOWDSDSJ 6. for fanfic purposes, since i really don't get baxter's personality in steps 1 or 2 of the second game, would it be okay for you to explain it a bit? correct me if i'm wrong, but i think you said step 1 baxter is kind of a brat sjfdsmfdjsm but what i'm really curious about is how he acts during step 2 (also as to how he managed to get such a bad reputation in golden grove since i read that in an earlier q&a dksjfskdmf)! if that's a spoiler or something you don't want to reveal right now, then that's totally fine! 7. did teenage baxter ever actually know what he wanted to be when he grew up? like what was his thought process when choosing business administration as his degree? like was his choice influenced by his parents and what they do for a living orrrr 8. and finally, ik this is wildly outside of the realm of possibility BUT just for funsies what if the ol1 love interests started dating a prince/princess/royal lol sorry for yapping sdjfsdmj i love your games so so much our life is genuinely the greatest thing i've ever played and i can't wait until the full release of the second game !! y'all are doing such a great job so far keep up the great work <333

This first question has probably been asked before god knows how many times (And I'm also unsure whether this could be classified as triggering, so on the offhand it is please feel free to skip over it), but in the preview of step 2 in the demo we brush on some of Qiu's mental health issues. Can / will MC be facing mental health issues, and if so would you not mind me asking what kind? I.e, will anxiety, depression, or coping mechanisms such as masking be present, or? Second question, how would the Jealous of / Jealous over options impact how Qiu and Tamarack act? For jealous of, would they silently try and pressure MC into spending more time with them, trying to make them feel sorry for them, etc, or would they be a bit more forward, actively trying to take them out of situations with others and arguing over that matter? And what would Qiu and Tamarack be jealous over when it comes to the MC, and how would this change how they act? Thanks for your time, keep up the good work, and make sure not to push yourself too hard while working!

This is my first time joining the Q&A thread, thank you for doing this :) I have a couple of questions (mostly centered around Baxter), for fanfiction purposes: 1) Is Baxter still friends with the Now & Forever characters by the time he meets the Beginnings & Always MC in the "Soiree" moment? If so, would the encounter be something he would tell them about? 2) I'm wondering about how it might go if Baxter ever ran into his parents somewhere after he has cut them off. I imagine he himself would try to stay polite, yet distanced, but how would his parents behave? Are they the type to make a scene? 3) Does Baxter like pets and would he consider having one in the future? and finally, one last non-Baxter question: 4) Is there an in-universe reason why we never see Liz show much interest in romantic things? I am kind of headcanoning her as aromantic, but then again it could just be that it wasn't much of a focus in the writing, so I thought I'd ask. That's all of them! First question: This one is more personal than usual (I think). What was the reason that made you want to start making games? And why exactly these types of games? Second question: If the protagonist and the main characters were to visit an animal farm, what activities would they be most interested in? (Obviously the MC doesn't count, since they are us.) Third question: if some people in the cul de sac were a fruit or a game, which ones would they be? This time I decided to settle for questions that didn't involve any spoilery parts. Just fun questions! (Whether this actually applied to the first question is something only the future me,Who probably has a chance of regretting putting in this fourth wall temporal break, just like Deadpool, can tell.) I can't wait to play the whole thing! :) Here is my complicated question: I played the demo and found this part of the character creator a little confusing. Itâs the part where you are picking the clothes: the âspecial wear,â âouter layer,â etc. (those might not be the exact namesâŚI canât look right now because I have a 4-month-old baby with me, ha-ha. I may edit this later if I remember). What clothes show up on your character icon? If I picked an outer layer, does that only appear during special times in the step? Or is it just like my characterâs outfit for the rest of the step? You also can NOT dress up the character? A little more clarification on that part of the character selection would be amesome. And If I completely confused you, I do apologize. I have a super intense mom brain, and even the simplest things right now are hard to understand sometimes. ^^*

I have some xod questions I have been waiting to ask you so here they are! -Iâm a REALLY big fan of Bae, and I noticed in Shilohâs Birthday Meeting Year 2, it mentioned that Bae has trust issues and doesnât like showing his true emotions. Why is that? -I also want to know Pranâs and Baeâs thoughts about bugs! Do they hate them or just dislike them? And how would they deal with them? Those are all my questions! Like painting them orange, black and purple for Halloween, or red, green and white for Christmas?? I was a bit curious of the character designs so going off of that, considering the OL universe has a very wide variation of hair/eye colors to pick from, what was your inspiration when coming up with Qiu and Tamarackâs color scheme? And is Tamarackâs âsparklingâ golden hair something the MC notices metaphorically or is that something that anyone who saw Tamarack would think her hair quite literally glitters?
