Added 2024-11-06 19:00:07 +0000 UTCFor the second month in a row, the question thread is a day late. I like to have it go up on the 5th, but the 5th keeps being a day off for me. Oh well, it's up now.
Here you can ask me things you're wondering about for our games or company and they'll be answered at the end of the month an an audio recording (with a text transcript too). Just make sure the questions long follow the guidelines!
The thread will close after November 19th.
Guidelines:
1. Please don't reply to other people's questions even if you know the answer. The fun of joining a Q&A is that the developer can give a direct response to you and that everyone else also gets to hear/see the answer in the end of the month post. Having another player resolve the question in the comments right here might not be what the asker was hoping for. This thread is more about having a good time rather than looking for an immediate response to an important question. And if you do have a question you want to hear about right away, it's best to ask in some other thread or to message me directly.
2. I'm afraid questions about what scenes/choices/art assets Our Life: Now & Forever will include aren't answerable right now. Most of the details are decided as the game is created and currently I'm only writing Step 1. I do know some things coming later, but only a small fraction of the whole game.
3. The questions can't be about more serious/potentially upsetting topics because I don't want those listening to suddenly be surprised with something they might not have been prepared for/want to be confronted with.
4. Please keep the questions here to things that wouldn't be really hard to tackle in an off-the-cuff, spoken out loud kind of Q&A, aha. Questions about a half dozen characters or wanting an entire theoretical situation described aren't super doable in this situation.
You can always send me questions outside of the audio Q&A if they wouldn't work here!

It's just not possible because of the level of additional writing it would require and the unfairness of adding one thing, like a wheelchair, but not every other thing like having a prosthetic or being blind or any other disability. I can answer your other questions, though!

2024-11-17 20:42:47 +0000 UTCsorry if this isn't really a good q&a question, it's moreso a follow up to an old one a ways ago I had asked if there was going to be more body choices beyond height and general build, at the time I believe it was said that it was going to be expanded, but it wasn't important to the preview we had, now that we're heading into step 2 proper, I was curious if that was still the plan, or if it was decided to be too complicated for too little payout For a more traditional question, is there a reason Qiu's family doesn't have a big get together for the mid autumn festival? Does the family have a complicated relationship, or is it just too out of the way?

I haven’t asked a question in a while so this time I have two questions, while I was playing the updated Step two demo something Qiu said caught me off guard a bit, when the MC responds to something Qiu said the MC says “you’re not dumb.” And Qiu responds with: “You don’t have to pretend-“ and they don’t finish that sentence, (I felt so bad for Qiu 😭) so I’m wondering if Qiu has difficulties in school what those difficulties are and why they’re having them? Unless that’s a spoiler in which case you can skip this question. 😅 Next question is very light hearted, I think in the last Q&A someone asked how Qiu and Tammy would be if they had a younger sibling, I have more or less the same question except I’m wondering what would Qiu and Tammy’s dynamic be if they had an older brother or sister?

Will it be sort of somewhat interspersed throughout various moments or will it be more rare? 3. Seeing as teenagehood seems to be a time of more turmoil for the leads. Will there be more serious/dramatic moments in Step 2 compared to Step 1?

I am still going back and looking at all the Q&As from before I joined :) Question #1: We can come out about our gender in the intro in Step 2. I was wondering if there is/would be possible to change your name during the gameplay rather than just in the beginning of the introduction or in the your details tab? For an example: we come out to our mom, and now instead of calling us by our full name (ex. Matteo) she asks what you want to be called (ex. Everly). Question #2: Will there be any 18+ moments when they are older? A wedding night one like Cove had? :) Question #3: Will there be different clothes options when they are older? Or is it just the same clothing options throughout? Also, so any of the clothes bring special dialogue? For example: I know when you were a bandage at the beginning and keep wearing a bandage Qiu asks what happened.

If specific timeframes needed, OL2 Step 1 and OL1 Steps 3 & 4? 2. Someone else asked about favorite holidays, could we know Baxter's and Derek's as well? 3. I'm dumbly curious about Baxter's habit of one-night stands, especially in contrast to how slow he takes things with MC. Like, were they a personal preference/doing what he wants or a flexibility/doing what he thinks the other person wants kind of thing? Were they mostly cases of him wanting more but it not working out, or him sabotaging himself, or otherwise purposefully pursuing a less emotionally-risky path? Or was it not even that deep and just how it kept working out and I'm reading too much into it??

With the jealously chart, does having a character be jelous over MC come across as protectiveness at all with MC towards other people or just plain negative feelings towards MC with other people aside from them. 2. In the Step 1 of OL2 In Wheels MC has the opportunity to fall off their wheels, is there anyway MC could get a scar from this event on their hand?

This time I have one for OL1 and one for OL2! - In the previous Q&A, you said that even if Cove is "only friends" with the MC, he still doesn't think Baxter is a good match for the MC if they're dating in Step 3, mostly because he doesn't like Baxter at that point in time. I'm curious if his opinion is (even slightly) different if MC met Baxter in the Soirée moment of Step 2, had an immediate crush on him then, and has been talking about that encounter to Cove ever since? Cause you know, Cove would then know this is the person the MC had a crush on ever since they were a teen, meaning it's more "deeply rooted" in a way. - You also mentionned (for OL2) how we can have our MC be a happy child in Step 1 and be mean or sad in Step 2. From the very start, I wanted to have my MC be "shy but happy" in Step 1, "hostile and unhappy" in Step 2 and "hostile yet happy" in Step 3. Basically, the overall hostility is just his genuine personality, but in Step 2 he has issues that make him unhappy on the side, while he found balance in Step 3. But is it actually possible gameplay-wise? To have a MC who is hostile towards people but actually a happy person? Thank you for taking time each month to do these! And take care of yourself!

My question applies to the love interests for both OL1 and 2, but feel free to skip any character if it's hard to answer! What would the LIs think of MCs who have their vices (drinking/smoking)? Assuming it's just a casual habit and not addiction-levels of bad - but I imagine someone like Derek/Tam for example would encourage the MC to quit, while Qiu/Baxter might mind it less, but I'm deathly curious to know. And which of the two could do something that would really help improve the MC's condition?Like, actually trying to find a medicine or a tea that would help, instead of, I don't know, doing a dance or making a silly face to see if the MC gets better?(Tamarack, I'm looking at you.) Second question:Any chance we could hug Opa in the future? Preferably with Tamarack. (The smiles of these two take away any kind of negativity I have at any moment, and I love those two.) Third question: if MC decided to imitate Qiu and Tamarack all day, what would be the reaction of the two of them, or the rest of the cul-de-sac? If the MC were to enjoy sketching and often drew their loved ones throughout all the steps, how would OLNF and OLBA leads react? 3. Cove's crush was pretty obvious (almost painfully so haha) to everyone throughout all of the steps, but if Qiu and/or Tamarack have a crush on the MC from the start, would others (ie people from school, family members) be able to tell? And if they can't tell initially, would they notice in other steps? 4. What does Baxter do if he meets someone who has the same rock-paper-scissors method as him (uses only one thing lol)? Are there public dances held in the Ballroom, or would it only be limited to the public school gyms? Had Golden Grove ever been used as the backdrop of a movie/TV episode? I can imagine Baxter's parents offering to let movie stars to stay (and possibly rent) at their mansion.

Does Qiu tend to be mindful of their lactose intolerance at 14? Or are they one of those teenagers who think "it couldn't be THAT bad". I was around their age when I developed my apple allergy but that did NOT stop me from trying to eat them regardless of the pain it put me in since I was so stubborn.

I don't remember if this was said in a passing Q&A, but is Opal in the asexual and/or aromantic spectrum? I remember someone talking about this but I never understood if it was a headcanon or something confirmed. 2. (about the question above) Maybe this is kind of a spoiler and you can't answer, but in the future, will we have an addition to the family? Like an appearance of family members or a new parent? I think it would be interesting to address this in the game, but I understand if it's not what was planned, I will always love the duo of Opal and Mc, the best little family ever <3 3. In OL1, I remember there was the option to swear, I always found that very funny and wanted to know if that would be a thing on OL2 haha 4. Between dogs and cats, what are leads preferences? Would Tamarack like a cat or a dog better? Would Qiu have a grumpy cat?

I had my questions prepped in advance since I haven't asked anything since... July I think. I hope you enjoy the last bit of autumn where you're from, it's only really just beginning over here. 1) Looking back at older posts of OL2's development, I saw that Winter almost ended up winning for OL2's setting. So I was wondering had winter won, how different do you think the leads we have would be? It's clear Tam and Qiu both have a very autumnal feel to them so I'm sure winter would have been used as inspiration for them both. But maybe the final products would be similar designs but Qiu would be Dongtian for Winter or Tamarack might have been Everett for something more wintery. 2) Major flowers given to you for having Tamarack be a sapphic/panromantic lead that is also plus-sized. I've rarely ever seen plus-sized characters as love interests in these sorts of games so Tamarack being one is really nice. So I saw while playing the Step 2 prologue that if you ask her if you want to swing together, she viscerally declines saying it would break, I was wondering if that's an indication Tam feeling insecure about her weight and if that will be a minor to moderate point in her story of acceptance? 2.5) What went into your decision into making Tam a plus-sized lead? 3) How long has Nichole been dying her hair? 3.5) Does Nichole's hair also have a natural sparkle to it like Tamarack's and the dye just mutes it out? Or is that just some recessive gene Tamarack got from some family member somewhere up the tree?

In trick on treat, we can take the candy apple that Ms Baumann gave us and share it, is the MC sharing it with Opal or someone else? Or is it supposed to be headcanon by the player? And I saw that we can decide not to share out gender in the intro of step 2 but will they’re be a way to just say it to Qiu and maybe came out in the time that lead from step 2 to step 3 or something like that?
