[News] The Patreon Dumpster Fire of 2017!

We don’t really like bringing emotions to our Patreon page. Because Zuripai Games isn’t really about that. We’re here to make people laugh at our game and get some mild satisfaction out of it.

But things are changing, and we feel we have to open up a little more than we normally do thanks to some of the changes coming to Patreon this month.

For the last few months, we’ve been scraping through our budget goals. Enough to keep us going and motivated to hit the next release, and just a tiny bit more. And if we’re being honest, we couldn’t of done this without our Patrons support. Paizuri University would not be possible without them. So to all of our supporters, past and current, you have made a huge difference in our lives to let us create this game. So thank you!

Which makes the next part extremely difficult to write.

If you haven’t noticed. There is a big dumpster fire on Patreon right now relating to the new changes in fees being applied to all Patrons.

If you’d like to know more about it, click the links below. Us explaining probably won’t help, so please read the articles if you want to understand it more thoroughly.

So what does this all mean for Paizuri University and Zuripai Games?

If there is no support, we may have to cancel Paizuri University.

The current Patron amount we’re raising each month is giving us a number of extra days to do all the art, writing and animations we do for each release, outside of our daily jobs. With a small amount of work going towards the Adventure mode if we’re lucky.

If we lose a lot of support because of the changes Patreon is making. It will lead to us having less time to make Paizuri University. Less time means slower releases, less releases means less potential support each month, and you can see we’re were going with this.

Cancelling development is not something we want to do, but the sad reality is it won’t be possible to make this game without the support that gives us the time to do it.

After almost one year of development, and getting half way through the development of Paizuri University’s story, we’re not happy that it’s coming to this.

Is Patreon an asshole for doing this?

No. We agree that Patreon as a service needs to make changes in order to ensure the sustainability of the platform in the long term.

BUT...

They could of handled it better. They could of been more prepared. Instead of this scrambling to explain everything after the deed has been done.

If you disagree with Patreons changes and want to leave. We completely understand. As consumers of our content you are well within your rights to do that.

Because, you are paying for a product in motion because you care. Your not subscribing, you’re not paying for membership. You are supporting products in motion. And it is your choice as a consumer of that product, to choose how you want to behave within that context. Patreon should of understood this.

We’re going to ride this out as long as we can, and maybe, we’ll make it out the otherside with very little changed. Or… we’re fucked.

Either way, we appreciate all the support our Patrons and even followers have been giving us this past year. You peeps are awesome!

Also, please don’t feel guilty about leaving. Seriously… Buka Chan is going to cancel their pledge too. Which is strange if you think about it, but they’re cancelling it now because of the changes. -_-”

Go team.
