Added 2020-04-25 21:09:35 +0000 UTCUpdated May 22nd - We've been investigating these black screen issues, and we've updated the page with more solutions. We're not sure if this will fix all of them, but if it does fix your issue please let us know in the comments it will help us out a lot.
We're really working in the dark on this on this one (pun not intended) and any feedback would be extremely helpful.
But we hope this gets it working for some of you. *fingers cross*
Hey y'all,
Recently, a number of patrons have been reporting a black screen when they start playing.
So we've been investigating a fix this weekend, and we've come up with a list of things for you to try if you are experiencing issues.
General Problems
- Make sure you've extracted the zip file before running the game. Sometimes the OS's default extractor doesn't work, so we recommend installing 7-zip (what we use) or Unarchiver (for Mac) instead to extract the files since they support more compression formats.
Windows Problems
- Disable the "Preserve aspect ratio" setting, or set to "Full Display", for your display in the graphic driver's settings. Newer built Unity games have an issue with this on some computers.
- Run in compatibility mode, or as an Administrator, or both.
- Make sure you have the latest .NET framework installed.
- Make sure your Graphics drivers are the latest version.
- Force screen settings using command line arguments. Use any of the arguments below (leave out the quotation marks). You can also specify these by creating a shortcut of the executable, editing the properties and adding them to the end of the “Target” field.
- “-screen-width 1280” to force the screen width.
- “-screen-height 720” to force the screen height.
- “-screen-fullscreen 1” to run in fullscreen mode.
- “-screen-fullscreen 0” to run in windowed mode.
- “-monitor 1” to run the game on a specific monitor. Just change the number.
- “-force-d3d11” to run using DirectX 11.
- “-force-d3d12” to run using DirectX 12.
- “-force-glcore” to run using OpenGL if it is not, will default to DirectX if it can’t.
Mac Problems
"The application '[game_name]' can't be open"
Try using "Unarchiver" or an alternative that instead of the default Mac unpacker.

These might not work for everyone. But if you're still experiencing issues or crashes. We ask that you send us a message to let us know what's going on and also send us a copy and paste of the "player.log" file found in the directory below if you can. Doing this will help us figure out what might be going wrong a lot faster.

If anyone knows other solutions too, or had a problem and figured it out, feel free to share your solution in the comments. We'd be extremely grateful!
We're sorry to any Patron's who might be experiencing these problems. And you can expect an updated release with a hopeful fix soon.
