[Development] Zurizuri Gets 2 Inches Added~!!!

Hey y’all,

This month we’ve been working on a heap of new features for Zurizuri Engine that will help us manage everything, making it the biggest change yet! 

How big?! Well… you can think of it as adding two inches.

We've also made progress on our big project which you can read about below~!

Z-Script File Type

Z-Script is now its own file type which removes a ton of headaches with file management on large projects. Yay~!

Visual Studio Code Integration

Z-Script syntax highlighting and Z-Script workspaces are now supported in Visual Studio Code. 

It has always been really difficult to manage all the Z-Script files in Unity, finding them, editing them, and not pulling your hair out. Now it’s easier, giving us a nice place to just work on it all without having to look inside Unity.

Conditional Branching in Z-Scripts

We can now do if statements to control the flow of dialogue! With the improvements to Z-Expression and Z-Scripts, we can actually do code like thingies! (see above image)

Embedded Z-Scripts

We also have the option of not having to create a Z-Script file at all, and embed them directly into whatever’s using it. Which lets us test ideas quickly without having to create extra files in the project!

Z-Templates Support

A helpful time-saving feature to quickly set up new scenes and jump right into scripting them. Trying to remember how to set them up often meant digging through the project, but NO MORE~!

Asset Libraries

The build pipeline now supports libraries. It’s currently being used for bundling Z-Scripts into large libraries instead of hundreds of individual files which will let us manage memory better in-game, and reduce the number of files the build pipeline has to generate.

Game Director and Activities

A new system that will let us control the execution and behavior of activities, like dialogue, scene control, mini-games, player controls and much more!

It addresses all the previous issues we encountered with Paizuri University and moves it all to a Director which lets us control the flow of everything. 

It’s a really big change, for really big things to come!

Big Project - Story Plot Development

On slightly less nerdy stuff, I’ve been working out the plot for our big title and I’m excited to say it includes Dick Spacer and Anna McCucklayne! Two characters we’ve been wanting to use for a very long time. Yay~!!!

I’ve also been working on a new logo we will be announcing our new big project with!

It has been a jam-packed month of stuff to do, and I didn’t do it all on my own. I’ve recently been getting help from an unknown senpai of ours, who has lent us some of their time to help out with coding tasks. So a big thank you to them for helping us out~!!!
