"Aren't you coming?" The blond man asked from the other side of the portal, causing people to wake up from their shock and want to go through the portal.
"Are you?" A young man asked the girl next to him.
"Of course!" She said excitedly. "We could win $10,000,000 just for playing one game, it could change my life!"
As soon as she said this, she started walking towards the portal with the boy at her side.
Unfortunately, an error message appeared in front of them.
[Error: You can only cross the portal by driving a car].
Realizing this, the people near the portal rushed out and went to where their cars were parked at the Car Meet.
Those who hadn't come by car had to leave the event to summon their car and quickly enter the portal.
Could Alex have created a way for them to simply enter the portal and summon the cars on the other side? Yes, of course he could.
But Alex was focused on the experience, he wanted people to feel different emotions, be it excitement, fear, haste.
All of these emotions would be the basis for making the new game stick in people's minds.
The BMW M3 driver didn't just appear in this car meet. He had appeared in all the car meets scattered around the various hubs, opening hundreds of portals and attracting millions of players to enter those portals.
In each hub, you could see a huge traffic jam of players trying to enter the portal, desperate for the $10 million, but Alex didn't intend to open any more portals.
Among the first players to enter the portal was [Silver], or as he called himself in the real world, Pietro Maximoff, driving the generic car with a silver and blue paint job that he had customized.
Pietro didn't have enough money to buy a real car model for the Oasis, so he had to make do with a generic car like the vast majority of other players.
But that didn't discourage him, as a big fan of speed, it was obvious that Pietro loved cars, even if it was a generic car, he was happy to be able to drive the car in this virtual world.
As soon as he stepped through the portal, Pietro found himself in a city that was completely new to him.
He had never been to New York, so he didn't recognize much of the city except for the large Statue of Liberty.
Unlike driving through the hubs of the Oasis, which didn't feel like a real city because of the different themes it had, driving in this version of New York was much more fun and interesting.
Not only was your car on the road, but there were other NPC cars that acted like normal people on the road!
Turning a little too fast could lead to an accident and an angry NPC getting out of the car and fighting with him!
Pietro was fascinated by how many new things there were in this city, but there was one thing that really caught his eye.
It was an icon of a racing flag with a bag of money on the screen of his GPS.
Clicking on the touch screen, Pietro saw an explanation of what it was.
[Mission: Bank Escape
Objective: Be the getaway driver in a bank robbery.
Reward: 10 points.
---
Mission steps:
1. Meeting: A gang is robbing a bank and needs an escape pilot.
2. Preparation: Park the getaway car near the bank.
3. Robbery: Keep an eye on the radio while the gang robs the bank.
4. Escape: When the robbers get into the car, drive fast and avoid the police.
5. Detour: Use shortcuts and side streets to distract the police.
6. Hideout: Follow the GPS to the hideout outside of town.
7. Reward: Hand over the robbers and receive 10 reward points.
Tips:
- Use nitro at critical moments.
- Avoid police roadblocks and security cameras].
Listening to the explanation, Pietro's eyes widened.
Listening to the explanation of the man he met at the Oasis, Pietro imagined that he would have to drive the car in some kind of illegal race, but as a getaway driver for a group of bank robbers?!
Just the thought of how that would work made Pietro's heart race in his chest.
"What are these points?" Pietro asked in confusion.
As soon as he said that, a screen appeared in front of him with a ranking of the other players, showing how many points each player had, and with a prize of $5 million next to first place, $2 million for second, and $1 million for third.
Above the table was a 6-hour timer, meaning he had 2 hours to get as many points as possible to climb the leaderboard!
Feeling the urgency, Pietro clicked his finger on the Escape Pilot mission, but just as he was about to click, the mission turned gray.
[This mission will be performed by another player].
It was the window that opened in front of him.
Looking at it, Pietro was shocked and realized the urgency he had.
Without a second thought, Pietro found another escape pilot mission and flew there as fast as he could.
Just as Pietro was desperately looking for the map, there were millions of other shocked players looking for missions to do around the map to get the points.
Meanwhile, Alex was looking at the data of these players with a big smile on his face.
Especially when he saw how many streamers were connecting to Need For Speed to draw as much attention as possible to the game!
The size of the city in the game was the size of NY in real life, so there wouldn't be a problem with space for the cars as long as the number of players didn't exceed about 1 million.
Based on this number, Alex set up another hub with a limit of 1 million players as well, and every few minutes a new hub was created with players coming in to try out the new game.
To ensure fairness, Alex set it up so that the more time that passed, the more points the missions earned, so it was possible for the best players to get a lot of points even if they joined at the end of the event.
The event wasn't 100% fair, but life isn't fair.
Seeing Pietro playing, Alex decided to join the teenager on his first bank run.
It would be interesting to see how a kid who didn't even have a driver's license in the real world would manage to outrun the police AI.
