Looking forward to this encounter, had like 4 playthroughs, in the one i want as canon i woke up in my own body, was sympathetic to jane (puppet), jane is a good friend with Mortum (not flirting) and Enigma ( sidestep, or puppetmaster) is a good friend of mortum as well ( not flirting as i am a Argent fan ), third book cant come soon enough :)

> "I need answers." Dr. Mortum's words are clipped and the gun doesn't waver from your face. "This is all your fault somehow." I laughed, because frankly, that's a reasonable assumption in more circumstances than Mortum likely realizes. Kind of seems like the difference between ip1 and ip2 is how familiar they are with the MC and their powers? :|a (Which is getting my hopes back up that maybe we *will* get an actual split between impostor-as-"Ace" and impostor-as-"${puppet_name}" after all...?) > "You haven't made sense in days." Dr. Mortum's gaze shifts to ${puppet_name}, who flinches back further. "You're not being yourself." Ooh. Days, huh? Now there's a time period I'd kill to be a fly on the wall for. > "Now now," Dr. Mortum gestures with the gun. "We can have a civilized conversation here." > "No—" you both say This is the point where I dissolved into giggles. Imagine being Dr. Mortum in this situation. Imagine. You hit it off with this nice young wo/man and look up a couple years later to find yourself, as a direct consequence of that meeting, moderating a screwed-up telepath's argument with themself(??) with the help of a gun you wrestled out of their own(??) hands? In retrospect, they really should have charged more. > before your puppet glitches into motion This is such a lovely, vivid description. > "Please hand me the gun, ${title}. Neither of us want an accident to happen in your condition." ...Their condition, huh? I am so curious what these last few days have looked like. > "Tying up loose ends." Another smile that's not quite a smile. Hm. That's kind of interesting, because it sounds *distinctly* like the wording of someone who knows they're trying to steal (back) your(/their) identity, rather than someone without a clear understanding of the MC/puppet situation. Obviously the former is *possible* without the latter, but... I'm actually surprised how quickly the impostor's efforts to, well, be an *impostor* got shot down! In retrospect, I probably shouldn't have been, since it makes sense Mortum would quickly notice if the puppet had a personality transplant; I guess I just ran much further than necessary with the potential for Mortum to assume the whole "${puppet_name} doesn't exist as their own person" story had been a lie. (It does have the effect of making this impostor feel increasingly like a pitifully hapless underdog rather than a threat. Which kind of delights me, because this *is* a story about queering the underpowered-reactive-protagonist/overpowered-proactive-antagonist binary and, frankly, at this point we're much better-qualified for the role of horror movie monster than most of our enemies.) > Is this how people look when you possess them? You'd like to think you're better than that. At least we still have time to be pettily judgmental, no matter the situation. :') > And whatever is in your puppet is not you. There is not nearly enough existential anxiety—I mean, curiosity—in this assertion. > No wonder you couldn't find your way back. Someone had already barricaded the entrance. oh, sure, you consider how it feels now that it's someone *else's* barricades sealing *you* off. :P > "I..." There's a hiccup at that word, and you can see the shards blacken, swirl, and there is your opening. > […] > "I don't know," ${puppet_name} admits with a high-pitched whine that feels only somewhat human. "I don't—" Aw, jeez :( This hits all of my "I feel so bad for them" buttons. > *if ip1: Weakness you've hidden behind layers of strength. If nobody can see the cracks, they can't use them against you. / *else: Darkness. The temptation to just let go. Be the monster everyone feared you would become. > your @{ip1 command|plea} ...Fascinating. Hm. I like that you can wonder if learning about Ace is what triggered all this. It's a reasonable assumption. This was so exciting to read! I've missed that unique tension of interacting with Dr. Mortum, and getting a chance to talk in-depth with them for the "first" time is especially interesting.
