What A Cartoon Movie! - An Extremely Goofy Movie

As the go-go '90s reached their end and Disney enthusiasm was at an all-time low, the studio relied on the highly profitable direct-to-video market to keep their animation efforts afloat. Classics like Bambi and Cinderella saw follow-ups in the cheaper clamshell format, but this money factory also made the sequelization of fairly unpopular movies profitable. So, as Y2K dawned, Disney brought us An Extremely Goofy Movie: the second (and to date, final) entry in the Goofy film series, and one that's laser-focused on year-2000 trends—namely, extreme sports and making fun of the 1970s. But is there something here that makes it more than just a cash-in sequel? On this month's episode of What A Cartoon Movie, strap on your safety pads as we rollerblade into the End of History and take a long, hard look at An Extremely Goofy Movie.

I’m mad disappointed that this movie’s history was never really recorded. This was one of my favorite movies as a kid(had both the vhs and the dvd). I remember my fav parts being goofy and the librarian at the club and the skateboarding scenes

In English schools, GCSE and A-Level grades are posted publicly on school notice boards. Pretty old-fashioned!

As an elder millennial, I wore slips in the 90s and early 00s to keep my skirt/dress from getting static cling and sticking to my butt. I don’t really wear shirts/dresses anymore but I know I still have a slip in my closet for emergencies.

Is Max short for Maximum?

Pedantry alert. Pinto Colvig did not originate the Goofy yell. It was done by professional skiier and yodeller Hannes Schrolle who was brought in for the soundtrack of the 1941 short The Art of Skiing. You're right that Bill Farmer can't match it, and in a way it's odd they didn't just use the original as it was clearly a stock sound effect that wasn't exclusively used for Goofy. It even inexplicably turns up in The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

You guys were nicer to this than I was expecting, warms my younger millennial heart It’s as good as a Back to School ripoff with the X Games can be and I’m glad you could find some joy in it 👍🏽

For all the ESPN logos plastered in the final act, I'm surprised there weren't any cameos by SportsCenter anchors. Could very easily imagine Rich Eisen or Stu Scott in Goofy-fied form.

On the topic of Pauly Shore, I took my mom to see him at the Tempe Improv in 2017, there was like 5 opening acts so the venue could prove they know how to book talent. Pauly ended up doing a bunch of his “classic” bits and then it devolved in “crowd” “work” , still we enjoyed our selves and yes he did seem pretty wired.

I have nothing BUT contempt for this court
