The manga cover stories also show how deep they’d go for each other, when they all had no money, and were being chased by marines after enies lobby. They decided to become a circus act for kids to raise money for lucci’s hospital bills. And just as you’d expect, in episode 0, they were all indoctrinated into cipher pol. Being put into it as kids. Their fate was already decided as toddlers. Those like luffy, at least got to decide what they wanted to do. Cp9 likely didn’t have the same luxury. So it’s not like they’re monsters that need to die, just products of their environment. Though lucci is an exception.
