This was a really fun piece to draw. I had the basic idea of an intense-looking villain using the phrase “leave no stone unturned” and then the reveal of the bug literally under a rock. But I wanted to sell it in an interesting way, so I padded the world building by making it a Yakuza style crime boss and masked ninjas.
Some surprisingly difficult poses to draw here, notably the crouching ninja lifting the rock, and the top panel, rightmost ninja. Something about the angle of the arms holding the sword must have taken like five redraws. Famously good advice by Todd Macfarlane— give the character baggy clothes and you don’t have to worry about the anatomy so much.
