Throwback Thursday (2/16/2023) - What J-Hope's MAMA Means to Me Now
Added 2023-02-16 21:02:01 +0000 UTCIt's always hard for me to talk about my Mom without crying. Even as I write this to you right now my eyes are watering and my heart is hurting. I do miss her tremendously.
Even though it is hard to talk about, I feel it is important. Today, I reflect on J-Hope's hit song 'MAMA'. When we first watched this performance on February 2021 (see reaction here) it made me feel even more appreciative of everything that my Mom did for us and it caused me to reflect on her sacrifices as a single mother to ensure we had the best upbringing that we could have. We grew up poor for most of our childhood, but when I look back I can honestly say that we were happy, because we always had each other.
Today, this song is one that I listen to when I am hurting and need to reflect on her goodness, even though it is hard.

2023-02-17 00:19:24 +0000 UTCI understand how you feel and I remember your video when you shared the news.๐ I was born on my mom's birthday and I always said "Im so sorry you were in labor on your birthday" and she always said "You were the best birthday present ever." She passed away 1month before our July birthday 7yrs ago. I was very sad that birthday but my family was there for me because they knew it would be the first one alone. They set up a balloon release in her remembrance by the lake and it was a very precious moment and memory. Jhope honoring his mother in that song was so wonderful because he wanted her and everyone to know how much he loves and appreciates her for what she has done for him and whenever I watch the performance I tear up and I feel good that I always let my mom know how much I loved her and for the way she raised me to be the woman I am today. I am blessed right now to have both of my parents still alive, but I know that wonโt be forever. And I also know I will be devastated to lose one, especially my mom since we have always been so very close. Honestly I tear up and start crying sometimes just thinking about it and it hasnโt even happened yet. As someone stated above, I canโt even imagine losing my mom either. Iโm still so sorry for your loss, and I do hope with the time the pain of it lessens although it will never go away. Love yโall Fam โฅ๏ธ. ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐

Iโve been grieving her loss to dementia and when she does actually leave us physically I will have to go through the whole grieving process again. The first time I heard and saw Hobi sing โMAMAโ he had a full choir behind him and it hit me two different waysโas a daughter and as a single mom. The tears are flowing as I write this. Caring for her for many years before placing her in a nursing home also divided our family saw the loss of the few friends I had. As difficult as it is, she became my best during the process and I wouldnโt change any of it. {{{hugs}}}

She was my best friend's mom and they came here to California from Texas a long time ago, just as I did. After my own mother passed away, Mama Ruby stepped in and I knew I could always call her and she would just send this incredible wave of love and kindness to me over the phone. I feel it has been a privilege to hear how you and your brothers feel about your mother, how much you all adored and respected her, and, although nobody can really imagine what it's like to endure the sadness you've felt since losing her, I just want to say that I send my love and support to all of you.
