Hello all!
Not too long ago I stumbled upon a few different collections of drone photography curated for D&D as 'photo-based battle maps' and thought it would be fun to try and using one as a reference for a hand drawn map. Thus.. Devil's Bay! The reference for this rocky shoreline was originally shot by photographer Oscar Nilsson on a beach of the same name in the British Virgin Islands.
As you can see if you zoom in on the preview I approached this one with a slightly more 'painterly' style, particularly around the details of the rocks and I'm rather happy with how it turned out. I enjoyed working in a more saturated color palette than what I might normally be inclined to use and feel like this could be a great location for players arriving from either direction, particularly if you're looking for a nice landing spot to use with the recent Upper Caves dungeon map (or other watery-themed locations to come).
Hope you guys like! In the pack you'll find a print version, night time palette variation, and a revised VTT copy set at 150DPI, no grid, and a faint square in the bottom lefthand corner for grid size scaling. If you want to find more top-down drone photography I'd recommend checking out the "IRL Battle maps" subreddit!
