Hello all! In about a month's time I'll be starting a new Curse of Strahd campaign and seeing as how it was also one of the two most popular picks for our module-based maps, I've decided to break ground on a project I've been excited about for a while now: creating battle scale, top-down maps of Castle Ravenloft.
Anyone that's familiar with the adventure has likely seen or heard of the infamously complicated set of isometric maps depicting the castle. Those maps, while necessarily detailed and three-dimensional to depict the vertical scale of the dungeon, aren't necessarily super helpful for tabletop play and are mostly used for DMs to build an understanding of the dungeon.
This is why I feel it is the best opportunity to help supplement the module--each room in the castle will be tackled individually and then presented in groups like this one; usually about 3-4 rooms per 'map'. My hope is that by the end of the project we'll have the entire castle mapped out to individual rooms, as well as put together for entire floors for those who desire such a thing. Additionally, because they'll be isolated like this, it's my intention to have these used as a sort of followup on our earlier dungeon tileset. By the time we're done we'll have about ~75 different 'tiles' that will be able to attached to each other in a variety of ways, providing a valuable resource for anyone running an adventure set in a large castle and not just those playing Curse of Strahd.
